Why I still choose SWTOR over newer MMO's

I'm not sure "newer" is a word but I did it get at me.
But anyways, I have tried every new MMO that has released and they just don't cut it for me the way SWTOR does. Probably all of them have a bigger playerbase and aren't called trash and considered a bad MMO like a lot of people would say SWTOR is. But I just don't see how people could ever consider this game bad, like I know the free to play part is what turns a lot of people away but to really experience this game you need to subscribe to it and just completely ignore that there is a free to play way to play because that is complete **** and you'd probably pay more in the cartel than you would just paying a basic $15. But to the "newer" MMO's that I've played. I tried Wildstar that I loved for two weeks then it just felt like WoW, I tried ESO which is just so... bad and I hate to say it because the lore and the whole Elder Scrolls part, I am just in love with you know? Like I love it's Elder Scrolls lore its just not an Elder Scrolls game and doesn't play well at all, and I didn't do the mistake a lot of people did going into it, I looked at it as an MMO first before it being and Elder Scrolls game. I did not have a subscription to SWTOR or have even played it until AFTER I tried these new MMO's because I was giving up hope on the industry. I love MMO's but everything got old. I needed an MMO with established lore, nice visuals, and would actually make me feel immersed and when I first visited this homepage after cancelling my subscription to ESO, I knew I had to try this, so I nervously spent $15 on the sub or $20 because I knew if I tried free to play I'd hate it, and I fell in love. I am in love with this game, the story, the lore, the feeling of being a yellow lightsaber holding evil jedi makes me smile and think about the next time I log in and what is in store for me next. As you can tell this is my first time ever posting in a forum... I just wanted to let people know that SWTOR can compete in this new crowd of MMO's because I've played the new ones and came here for the first time and can't stop playing. Jesus this is very scattered and unorganized.

One thing I would like to point out: EVERY MMO has its "haters." No matter how great the game is, someone will find something to b**** and moan about. But a corollary to that point is that most "haters" "hate" on a game because they want to love it. But because they found something (or a number of somethings) that really rubs them the wrong way, they passionately want it/them to change. And when it/they don't...love turns to hate. That being said, some of the things players find and "hate"... /facepalm...OMG.

All that being said, no one, I repeat NO ONE, should ever base their liking or disliking a game because of another person's opinion. Every individual needs to make up their own mind.

I too enjoy this game (although the content gap is starting to wear on me). And so long as I continue to enjoy it, I do not care what anyone else thinks about it.

Swtor is the only mmo I'm interested in. I played wow for 4 years, and enjoyed my time with my guild, but I retired. I've always been a single player story based rpg fan, and swtor is a nice synthesis of the genre that I love, regardless of the haters.

I came back in march after over a year away so I'm not suffering through the content draught others are, everything feels very fresh to me.

SWTOR's problem isn't the initial appeal, it's the retention caused by the lack of new content.

See how you feel six months from now, when you finish the story quests and realize BioWare has no plans on extending any of them and haven't released substantial story content at all for over a year. Despite being the "mmo with story". Or, that its been about that long without new operations or that they've actually removed more PvP content than they've added since release. But WAIT, we get houses and new cartel packs to buy with lamps and chairs to fill them with

the F2P is what turns me towards swtor. i have been subbed for a long time, but i would never play at all if i was forced to. subs suffer no losses due to F2P, only non-subs, so they really shouldn't care.

i like that it has a huge story with voices and multiple choices that effect the story.
Spoiler

Spoiler

i think that is pretty amazing!

i also like that you can buy permanent, account-wide unlocks from the cartel market. i also love that bioware recognizes that you don't have to be a sub to contribute to them, so they threw in the preferred status system!
people on the internet are only mean because they can get away with it

i really don't give a **** about operations and flashpoints! can't i just have story content without having it be group orientated?!

operations and flashpoints are a sad excuse for "story", you play it over and over with multiple characters and you have to do it with other players, who may or may not be fun people. they are also incredibly short when compared with actual class story content.

RotHC was a really nice epilogue, but i don't want to do it over again when i pump out a second 55er on the same faction.

What will keep you playing when you see all of the class and planet quests?

They tried to make SWTOR a story oriented MMO and they have failed catastrophically at that. There is a finite amount of story content and they have added almost nothing to that in two years, which as an MMO is pathetic. If that's the niche they chose to carve out for SWTOR, that should have been the focus of their updates and content. Instead, it's taken a backseat to their incessant and foolhardy attempts to make the game appeal to as wide an audience as possible - largely just by copying popular features from other MMOs or throwing together ill-conceived and mediocre additions like galactic starfighter. Meanwhile, pve players/guilds are bored waiting for new operations to clear and PvP players are bored as they try and make the most of the handful of arenas BW replaced ranked 8v8 with after deciding they had epic failied on that (they did, by not introducing cross server). And, after BW basically told them PVP is now on the backburner with no plans in the future at all. I could go on but meh, I wrote a 2,000+ word post describing the abyssal depths of their ineptitude and they deleted it of course, despite it causing zero arguments and people largely agreeing with it.

To each their own. Been here since early access, and while I've periodically taken a week here and there off for other games, SWTOR held my attention. WoW held if for less than two years, bailed after BC. LOTRO held it for two years. This game is king for now. Plenty to do. Sure Ops are getting a bit stale, but I have plenty of toons to finish gearing. FP's are old but still fun with guildies. PVP is...well PVP.

For everyone who burns through content and cries for more, there are others who are just getting around to finishing stuff.

We all know it's you Tait, nice try. But I choose SWTOR as well, other MMOs are kind of boring to me.

I pick SWTOR over every other MMO because WoW bores me and I can't go back to it no matter how hard I try and I just have no interest in ESO or WS.
Back in Black (and redder)!
