For me, this type of game is absolutely fine. I play Bioware games almost exclusively for a reason. For others, that's problematic. But it is what it is and that's not going to change. You aren't going to get open world. You aren't going to get day/night cycles. Trying to get the basic nature of the game changed is going to be a nonstarter.
The team wants to tell a story, how and when that story are told is up to them. They have done "day/night" in other games but not in the way someone would normally consider it. I can stand in the same place for 3 months and not see any day/night change until you go to a selection screen (mostly in Dragon Age). At that point you basically have two static locations one during the day, then at night. The latter being specifically designed with nobody around, no vendors, no quest givers, and for a very specific meeting/intent. I could stand there for infinity and never see the cycle change unless I basically select that instance. That was the way they wanted to tell the story and was part of the story itself.

They have chosen their own way to tell their story. They chose static locations at static times to best tell that story. AS others have said, having people standing there the same way regardless of the time of day really makes it meaningless. Otherwise you have people standing around in middle of the night doing the same thing they were doing middle of the afternoon. It just makes no sense.

Exactly. It's a novelty that most people will think is cool for about 5 seconds and then forget about it.

You forgot to add that they will start to complain soon after that, because they cannot see in the dark

Like I said, we could have personal lighting for the night time.

Regarding cycle function, I actually find short day/night cycles less immersive than no cycle at all. If there's going to be one, which I'm not saying there should be, it should be at least 4 hours long from dusk to dawn so it doesn't feel like you're in a tiny, tiny world.
I am not a WoW player, i love KotOR, Clone Wars TV series and all that stuff.

I have no problem with NPCs standing the same way all the time.

You would still have limited visibility on greater distances. By having a light around you, you make the neitre night concept pointless. "So, yeah I got night time, great, lets make everything in a large radius around me bright like it always is, but hey, I have a night around me, soooo awesome..."

That really makes no sense at all. Bioware has a long history of not being big on day/night cycles in their games. This puts the purported reason as fitting with their previous design philosophy. On top of that, the game took years to produce and had a slightly unfinished feel at launch due to the determination to release for the holidays. Reading what it is like to work for an EA development studio, I HIGHLY doubt laziness is a factor at all.

Of course you are going to believe whatever reasons you want, but evidence does not support your laziness/just did not feel like it position.

I suppose the only question I would have is:

Are you okay with an entertainment company telling you the story the way they want?
I'll tell you what, then. Why don't you call me some time when you have no class?

Arguments like that make this conversation pointless.
