Seeing as one of this game's features is that it encourages you to play with other alts, you'd think you'd be able to use your built ships.

Nope. Start over from the beginning with a base fighter and scout. Why would I punish myself by queuing for it in a new alt when I personally know I have better on my operative? At least in pvp warzones, you get bolstered so you can still enjoy a somewhat relative competitive field.
^ this 100% having 6 different characters that all play GSF and getting them all 4-5 ships is really annoying and takes my enjoyment out of the mode.

This, you lose the new players because of this, while the old ones leave when queues get longer and/or they get bored of GSF.

I think you summed it up.

For BF games I had a joystick and a mouse connected. Fly time? Move mouse, use joystick, worked great.
The GSF mouse controlling I found just plain obnoxious. Yeah it functions, yeah I could have stuck with it and kept improving at it but didn't want to because it "felt" like crap. Not a control I'd want to stick with and could enjoy.

It's a simple concept and simple minigame but doesn't seem that friendly for potential casual players or newcomers.

My biggest issue with GSF has ALWAYS been the lack of controller/joystick support. I ABSOLUTELY HATE that "twitchy chase the cursor" bs they call controls. And I've tried several times to play it....but the controls always made me quit and go find a drink. LOL I grew up on wing commander, Jedi Starfighter, and a lot of other flying games....all on consoles, and a few flight Sims on PC. Some were on rails, some were "open space", ALL gave me an option to use a method of control I felt comfortable with. GSF doesn't give you that option. Personally.....I don't mind getting my ***** handed to me while I'm learning how to play a game. But if I'm not comfortable with the controls....If I have NO options with controls...then I'm NOT gonna keep playing.

Poor controls, no tutorial and a secondary endless grind which makes no sense, since most people who would even play GSF are already stuck in an endless primary grind to gear one toon for PvP, possibly one alt if you have no job.

GSF is a choice, either you choose GSF and spend all your time playing and grinding or you stick with the PvP you already enjoy. Their gear pricing makes it almost impossible for me to do both.

...but I do believe it is not as popular as it could have been, had it been designed properly. Whether it was a design decision, lack of time or funds or a combination of both, it just seems to me like it was an opportunity lost.
Short version: it blows.

You know that, everyone around know that even the devs.

Nah, it doesn't.

It fails to appeal to a broarder audience but blow it does not.

Uh, sorry but no. GSF comes in at #117 popular things to do in SWTOR. Right behind #116 stand on fleet and count the stars outside the window..... Kinda cool idea but underwhelmingly implemented as per usual and Bioware couldn't balance anything PVP related if their lives depended on it. The worst control system ever. Theres Android apps that pull this off better.

Well, I understand that some folks feel it is a complete failure. I think that is an unfair conclusion. I feel it likely fell short of expectations, as I have stated in the past.

YEs, I expected something fun and playable. Instead I was greeted by GSF.
I see their R2 droid and I grab it. No, you can't have it back, silly rabbit!
