I am surprised there are very few if any defenders of the feature up to this point in this thread.

I would mention that, according to polls done in the forums at the time before the release of GSF the most popular option chosen was BF2 style, not JTL (though BF2 style would have provided some open movement and dogfighting action).

In my personal opinion I think a BF2 style complete experience should have been the way to go.

When you're leveling, all the PVP gear is PVE gear. At end game, the relics are often only second to the best tier PVE drop gear that can take months to get your hands on in a fair raid group. You can even trade in the PVP coms for planetary coms or use the emptied PVP shells if you like the style.

Makes sense. I last levelled a toon back in 2013. Should have PvP'ed a bit then I guess.

Lol, oh excuse me. Team deathmatch is now a thing, because removing like the only objective from single flag domination counts as new content.

It's all good. I'm a PVE player so I always try to find ways of streamlining the gear issues that can take forever. PVP can be invaluable at times.

I actually wanted to share some of my thoughts on this. I posted a while back in regards to how much I liked GSF. I did take a break from the game for a little while. Due to the double xp week I've started a few new characters. Originally when I just started out on my main character I was ok with taking my lumps before I became competitive myself. On my alts I lack that same understanding.

On my new characters I decided to try out warzones, I never had before. I am actually enjoying leveling through them and I find myself wondering why some design decisions used to create warzones doesn't apply to GSF. The use of a tiered bracketing system I think would be quite beneficial. Between the level brackets and the bolster system I can jump in and feel rather competitive right out of the gate. I also thought that simply granting warzones comms for star fighter matches would encourage more participation. I would then be able to advance and outfit my character on the ground through GSF.

Just some of my random thoughts on GSF. I do still enjoy it but the incentive to play on my new characters isn't there

I can't defend GSF as such. I spent hundreds of hours with JTL upto and including the day SWG was shut down to not wonder what might have been with GSF. The same will apply no doubt to the upcoming GSH (which seems to pale in comparison to SWG's addictive housing system). Nearly everything SWTOR offers, in fact, is easily bettered by other MMO's BUT I still find GSF a lot of fun. It could have been better....but then again it does offer something different for those who like to 'aim' once in a while

You're excused

You stated that GSF had only one game mode. Which is wrong. I pointed it out. For some, team deathmatch is a fun alternative to the domination maps but obviously GSF in general could do with having a broarder appeal.

Too much analysis over something that's quite straightforward.

SWTOR is a typical, ground MMORPG.
If people wanted to play a good space sim, they'd be playing EVE.
Instead of spending time and money creating a poor man's EVE, they should've given us new OPS, Warzones, Events, Flashpoints and planets.

I said it when GSF was released and I'll say it again:
I'm happy that (very few, it seems) people seem to enjoy GSF, but it has no place in SWTOR. It was a bad attempt at bringing back old players and attracting new ones because it added absolutely zero value to the basic game which, personal preferences aside, is not a space sim but a ground RPG. It doesn't matter if some people like Space sims - they won't stick around for long, considering this isn't the best one out there, anyway, what matters is that it held back the production of things that would've been much more appealing to a much wider audience.

PS: It seems to me that this is the second time they screw up by listening to those crying the loudest.
First with Arenas and now GSF. Granted, they might not be exactly what people asked for, but there were people crying in every part of the forum about both of those.
Things aren't looking good for Strongholds - another of the "WE MUST HAVE THIS OR WE'LL LEAVE" crowd's favorites.

Of course you're right, but JTL v2 would have cost actual money to develop, GSF was probably dirt cheap.

Or what, do you think that actual money is budgeted for this game? Oricon was the last real content, we might get one more in 3.0 to coast along for the CM for another year, but no real money has been spent on this game in a year now.
