And what is the point of being able to sit on chairs in a video game? Seems pretty pointless.

If I were to give them any feedback based on observation, I would say this....

...add in an open item placement option to supplement the hook system. The system is in place and functioning, but there are those that seem to prefer free placement (myself included obviously) and I think that option should be available.

An alternate option would be to allow us to move the hooks. That way you still get the static generation of items, naturally hooks can have collision to prevent them from being moved to inappropriate places.

Something like this might allow us to "stack" hooks as well, allowing use to stage placement, like a lamp on a table.

I personally think it is important to give this feature as wide an appeal as possible.

It looks good to me but then again I prefer a bit of hand-holding, I suspect the sandbox lovers are gonna hate it.

I was bummed that we apparently cant change the wall/floor/ceiling texture, but on 2nd thought, I find the unique design of 4(3) strongholds on different planets to say Wildstars ability to use XY wallpapers in one of the basically generic houses on a fixed floating plot of land.

I just hope I heard wrong that the palaces are vastly different in sizes. If I like the DK setting I wouldn't want' to be penalized for it by feeling I have to get NS for the extra centrepiece hooks.

Only thing I'm wishing for presently is some added practical value//meta game to the stronghold that goes beyond placing a few utility items and competing for prestige points.
Sorta like WoW is doing with their garrisons. Put a lab in, get stim crafting components every 24 hours or an efficiency/crit bonus on biochem for your legacy. As cool as just having a place to decorate is, I'd hope there is more usefulness to it than that.

So so far so good. Not completely blown away but pleased so far.

P.S. companions are a bad way to display gear, you know that BW, that was a sidestep of "no, no way to display gear". Make mannequins happen.

You have seen him missclicking on the "Nodes" for Bioanalyses you have? Just loved the expression when he noticed and how fast he was clicking it away. I am already imagininig the Raidgroups Rooms in the Coruscant Guild Stronghold, lots of Plants for Biochem

In resume SWTOR spent more $$$ to make a hook system instead of a simpler free placement one.
.
  • 30%ish of the floor area does not let players to place items (worse on walls and ceilings)
  • We can't put one object on top of others, like lamps on tables.
  • No tilt feature
  • No item scaling
  • Changing a hook layout dismiss all objects on the area, needing to redo the layout
  • Hooks restricts the type of objects you can drop, depending on the room/area
  • We have to unlock "pay/grind" to display multiple versions of the same items
  • No walls/floor/ceiling texture customization
  • Using hooks needs more steps (UI wise) than using free item placement
.
Bonus: characters still can't sit on chairs.
.
Does not look like a success story at all.

I’m surprised everyone is so negative. This looks great!

I’m sure I will spend countless hours making my “home” look just like I want it. I believe free placement would be harder to use (if you’ve used CAD software and placed something in 3D you know how painful it can be, it never ends up in the right positions without supporting lines and snapping). The hooks with free placements in the “hook areas” are more than enough for me. Also looking forward for a reason to revisit old operations and flashpoints.

I was blown away! While I was kinda hoping for free placement as seen in Wildstar Online, I also know that A LOT of bugs in the Wildstar Online free placement system caused me incredible frustration when building my house in that game. This fusion of hooks and free placement seems to strike a fair and helpful balance between the two systems, which means that we're getting the best of both worlds!

Just a few things that I would love to see in Strongholds, though (and I understand that development might have reached a point where some of these are not feasible, but I'm gonna go for it anyways):

1) Give the option to allow pets and companions to roam freely throughout the Stronghold, as this would add an awesome sense of living dynamics to the Strongholds. And yeah, I know that companions show up as holos, so this could either work with all companions at once (best case scenario), or it could happen for only the companions of the visiting character (acceptable option).

2) Make day/night cycles JUST FOR THE STRONGHOLDS. I'm not asking this for the game, but just for the Strongholds. It would be fun to RP different times of day within a Stronghold.

3) Allow for the option to have Fleet chat as well. It would be nice to be able to hang out in Strongholds without giving up all of the social advantages that the Fleet provides.

Honestly, though, that's all I got in terms of improvements - what I've seen so far has been staggeringly good! I'm really excited for this! Keep up the amazing work, Bioware!
