When I was talking about worth of selling, I meant that I didn't get any full sets or anything worth selling, so 64 bucks might as well been flushed down a toilet.
Your "point" was that rather than buy a set of armor on the CM or GTN you decided to spend WAY OVER the cost of the armor for a chance you MIGHT get it. Given that you didn't much care WHAT armor set you got (You couldn't know in advance) there are armor sets for sale on the CM for a few hundred coins, about your monthly allotment. One orange set is as good as another. (Yes, yes. We KNOW some get a helmet and some don't. Meh!) But rather than pick up a set for "free" (kind of, cough!) you decided to spend $64 real life dollars for a chance to get one.

You gambled instead. You lost. Now you're either complaining about it or having a need to tell everyone how badly you screwed up.

Bioware thanks you for your support. Why not buy another Hypercrate? This time you might get lucky! Be sure to report back how it went.

The ones for sale directly from the CM are more of a waste than the chance of getting something from cartel packs, even despite the much cheaper cost. They are ugly and/or generic and don't stand out. Then again, nothing in the latest pack is very impressive either, so lets pretend we're comparing the CM gear with a good pack.

I get what others are saying. The more packs you open, the more likely you will eventually receive a rare item. Can't argue with that. You also can't argue that whether you open 1 pack or 1,000 packs, each time you open a pack you have a 1% chance to get it. By definition, 'percent' is 'per hundred'. So on average, if you open 100 packs, and the drop rate is 1%, you would expect to get 1 rare item. The more you open, the more you get! But, the odds are still 1%.

I would like to thank those of you that spend money on these boxes and put them on the GTN so I don't have to spend a dime of real money... You're the real heroes!

I bought one hypercrate and like 2 extra packs. I got absolute junk. Not even reputation trophies. These past two packs were worse than being robbed at gun point.

I'm pretty sure getting robbed at gun point is much, much worse. Crying that a bunch of grab bags didn't drop what you want is like complaining that you didn't get your favorite player in a hockey card pack.

We may be talking past each other.

You are correct, the odds for each pack remain the same, per pack, at 1%. The odds of receiving at least one of X do increase as you open more and more packs.

Open 1,000 packs and the odds become quite good you'll get at least one of X. If your goal is to get one of X, then opening more packs increases the odds of that happening. Open enough packs and the odds are almost guaranteed. (Such as the one million pack example, the odds of not getting a single X in one million packs is approaching zero)

I assure you from experience that being robbed at gunpoint is much worse.

The odds per pack are indeed 1%. The odds of getting 1 of X if you buy 100 packs? Much higher than 1%.
