From a long time fans perspective.... I played KOTOR then KOTOR 2 and now SWTOR, I really like the character and his place in the Star Wars Universe... one of the few things that I DID NOT ENJOY was the flimsy foundry story with Revan.... First, the encounter shouldn't have been some lvl 30 flashpoint, second the forced confrontation left me angered.... no chance to save or redeem and then bam.... all over. I remember when I first ran foundry I was like, oh hell yes! then afterwards I swore I'd never run it again.... Revan is a legend and should have been left there.... any interactions should have been grandiose and mind blowing, not a bookmark on your way to level 35 of whatever.

The fight with Revan on the Foundry did seem like they just added him as a footnote but in the end I was okay with that. Consider that this is a new story and not a continuation of Revan's saga. He's mentioned enough in the lore.

Also, Revan isn't some god - no character in Star Wars is - nor does he stand out as particularly powerful aside from the testimony of a number of characters and authors, all of which could be bias or subject to faulty analysis. Darth Sidious was the most powerful Sith and likely the most powerful Force user ever and even he was fallible.

Consider the caliber of foes that Revan was presented with in the TOR player characters on the Foundry, each of whom are meant to be legends in their own right. Based on the Sith Warrior storyline alone, I'd reckon that at the height of the character's power he/she could defeat Revan single-handedly.

The problem with Revan is that he's not the protagonist of SWToR. All of his "Mary-Sue" qualities are fine, almost expected, in an RPG protagonist; many other protagonists do much the same thing, because it's a player power fantasy and people want to be special snowflakes.

But implement him as an NPC in other media and you get first the players annoyed at their custom Revans being invalidated by canon (if their Revan was a woman, or Dark Side, or just looked different) and then the folks annoyed that he's a midlevel FP boss who is easily beaten up by new characters (how many threads were there about this?),
or his crazy plans that make no sense, or... well, you get the idea.

And to the people who have not played KotOR, he's just a random lunatic that for some reason people make such a huge fuss over. It might've been better for "Revan" to have been left a mystery and not actually appear in the game at all, only in the legacy he left behind like the Revanites etc.

I don't think this is accurate, at least not for myself. I liked Revan just fine in the novelization, it's the video game portrayal I dislike but that's symptomatic of being a video game MC. Sadly, this is the Revan that most people know, the all-powerful BAMF that overcomes every challenge set before him and dominates everyone with seemingly no limit to his power. People like that for the same reason they like all poorly written MCs: escapism.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

Seems like Revan has always been rediculously overconfident, thinking he can do anything on his own.

Stop the mandalorians, conquer the republic, defeat the empire..

The last thing is just stupid. He should just have stayed and help rebuild the republic after Malak's rampage, you know.. take responsibility for his own actions. He could have helped prepare for the Sith empire's eventual attack and he could have prevented the Sith triumphate laying waste to the republic further.

But nope, he left on a selfish quest for glory yet again.

A shame that the novel/TOR revan is such a tool without redeeming qualities.

I have no hate for revan, but I hate almost everyone who ever brings him up on these boards because it draws out a plethora of fanboys who will refuse any logic or reason in the favor of "omg revan so stronk"

He's not as powerful as people think, he's good, but not that good.

He also wasn't the smartest tactician whomever lived, compare him to thrawn. Thrawn beat every opponent he faced through Strategy. Never lost ground. Revan sacrificed planet after planet, and only beat back the Mandalorians because they expected him to act like a Jedi, and he was never a Jedi.
