Why the hate on Revan

I don't get why, despite being repeatedly called the most powerful force-user of his time, people hate on Revan so much. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't thrilled he got nerfed in SWTOR and downsized in his novel, but he's repeatedly referred to as some all-powerful Jedi. He's practically the Chuck Norris of the old republic era and I don't get why people span hate about him.
Query: Is there someone that you need killed master?

I wouldn't call becoming part of the Force to later be absorbed by some Darth as 'still alive'
Sorry. No referral link here. Trust me! You don't want to....

I don't think Revan is/was the strongest force user - rather, he was the smartest. He won the Mandalorian Wars because of his peerless military brilliance. His teachings were incredibly wise. The way he valued things like the Infinite Engine spoke volumes about how far ahead he was thinking. But the toughest opponents he defeated in duels were Mandalore the Ultimate and Malak. The former wasn't a force user, and the latter was kind of a scrub.

I believe the strongest Force user of the Expanded Universe was Meetra Surik, aka the Exile. Why? Because "there is a... a greatness in you, but it does not stem from the Force. It stems from who you are."

First she defeats Darth Nihilus, who is the Force equivalent of a black hole. Then she beats the immortal and tireless Darth Sion so many times until she actually convinces him to give up and die. And then she kills an old lady, which is a bit anti-climactic. Even after being killed - which was most likely a stab in the back, 'cause there's no way she'd lose a clean 1v1 against
Spoiler
- her spirit fights on for 300 years, until death itself gives way.

Now that's some Chuck Norris material right there.

Guess it was just a matter of time before someone went into a Jedi Exile vs Revan tirade, with one clearly outshining the other.

You're missing the point.

Revan should not have been directly placed in this game. His presence invalidates any aspiration a player of KOTOR couls have had about his ambiguous future and player actions. Removing the ambiguity of Revan would be like showing Master Chief's face, or giving Gordan Freeman a voice.

No wipe, no gripe.

I think it's less hate and more frustration with how hyped he is; hyped by the kids who didn't play KOTOR till recently and think Revan is just the best thing since Jesus.

Canon Revan has already been put in place a while ago by LucasArts, whether Bioware had the character in the game or not, thus that point is moot.

Revan was male. He sided with the Republic against Malak instead of retaking his place as the Dark Lord of the Sith. None of his companions perished on his way to destroy the Star Forge and so on and so on...

I for one am extremely glad to see him in the game, especially seeing that he was voiced by Jeff Bennett.

That's the point. None of that should have ever happened.

To be honest, KOTOR Revan was basically a "Mary Sue" character in my eyes. Like the Dovahkiin from Skyrim, you did everything basically in their story of him. You were the center of attention, the entire galaxy revolved around you, and you never really made a mistake that basically had a lasting negative result that you could consider as a true "defeat".

Overall, he was too perfect. No one likes "Mary Sue" perfection like characters, no one wants to read about the perfect person who can do no wrong living out in their world where nothing bad truly happens to them.

So when he was announced as a returner in TOR, I was personally disappointed as I didn't want to see a character like that fit into an entirely new era and an entirely new setting, involving characters I can relate with more. However, with the events that unfolded in the Foundry and the way he was portrayed during your encounter with him, I actually am more fond of the character now. He gained a personality, where the story writers placed him in a universe where it didn't revolve around him, and his character developed deeper as for the first time in his story, he actually loses. You get to see him not as a perfect Force user or philosopher anymore, only as an interesting venue into philosophy regarding the Force that actually puts it on the same level as the other two extremes.

Now, I'm kind of excited to see what comes next for him in this storyline should he make a return. My qualms with the character came from the fact that he had never been written in any other fashion other than as a perfect hero that could basically do no real wrongs in their universe, and that has completely changed with the Foundry. So now that he's actually more of a believable and relatable character, I look forward to seeing more of him in the upcoming content if he is going to return at all.
