Arena is a way to judge an individuals skill level by the rating his team has. Those that are opposed to it have the intelligence of Swiss Cheese and would prefer not to be judged on their 1100 ratings.

THey would prefer hiding in an unrated warzone, where they can have the feeling of being good (When they actually are not).

If you don't like Arena don't do it, but don't sit there and say it shouldn't be in the game for those who DO like it. If you are one of those people that are opposed, you fall into the category of Swiss Cheese idiots mentioned above.
Not really. I'm not saying skill doesn't matter in the arenas of WoW. But gear and team-comp was far more important to be successful.

I rather not see small, glorified duels in this game.

Your point seems more psychological where you like to immerse yourself into a game, and i get that. I also think that SWTOR does this very well, and by adding services to the game it will not take that immersion away.
Then the game is a failure and we should move on waiting for another worthwile title.

Catering to everyone ruins mmos. Look at WoW, sure it have most subs, but people who play it are too addicted to quit, are spoiled beyond believe, "hard" is only a name for instances where better purples are served on silver plate and so on and so forth.

Also its not about the accesibility of the content, but the quality. WoW arena being failure and succes at the same time is irrevelant, fact is it obliterated every other form of pvp, ruined pvp community, only e-peen matters there. Been there, done that, never want to see it again. The fact is that arena is one lowest possible form of pvp in mmo as its only a simple MOBA minigame whith no soul at all. And I'm fed up with meaningless PvP for e-peens.

But it destroys any sense of community on a server. In WoW it started with paid transfers, but since the cooldown was so long it wasn't something you did lightly. Then that got reduced more and more, then you had the cross server battleground, then you had cross server dungeons and before you knew it the community was all but dead.

A MMO is suppose to be a social experience first and foremost. Guild mates, friends, rivalries with opposing guilds. That is what made World of Warcraft so great in the early days and that is what I hope Swtor will hold on to.

But if everything you do is done on a massive scale to help lazy people get into their dungeon at 04.00 without having to talk to a single human being then there won't be a community. Its just a sea of random names that you never see again.

It would be good if you could pvp in an open area though.
BioWare consider the ideas in THIS thread.

100% this; I couldn't have said it better. I'm a former glad/arena master in that tired and broken system and have no desire to see it repeated in this game. However, if you disagree with the OP or most pro arena posters, you're a scrub non-factor who can't hack 2.2k and your opinion doesn't matter. It's rather amusing to watch their replies to people.

Even though arena is frowned down upon in most of the swtor community, I agree with the OP that this game really needs arena. There is no type of small scale PvP in this game besides dualing 1v1.

A simple death-match style 2v2, 3v3 arena warzone would really be beneficial towards this game. Bioware already addressed PvP balancing issues with expertise and the PvP zone buffs such as reduced healing, etc. Please Bioware! Give us competitive PvPers arena!

Other than that little fact that the best gear was only available through arena; and world PvP completely died with the introduction of arena and flying mounts. Your posts are gems.

No, they didn't. They said that installing arenas as the "main" pvp of the game when the game wasn't created to support it wasn't a good idea.

All that did was stop forcing world pvp. World pvp only died because no one wants to do world pvp. In almost every situation, world pvp just came down to "whos zerg was bigger" or "who got the drop on who". People preferred a controlled environment where winning came more from ability than circumstance.
