We will need a server wide chat channel when housing is released

Why would anyone spend much time in their houses? I guess that's where I'm a little lost with this thread (and the housing system). They're nice to have, nice to wander around in occasionally, but ships will be far more functional outside of the legacy bank feature and few people spend much time in those...

The point of a global channel is to make it so that people do not have to "go look it up", if I correctly understood those asking for one. Something similar to what I suggested makes it possible to have that "global LFG channel", while still protecting those who do not wish to be subjected to the spam potential of a global open chat channel.

The ability players have to "turn off" a global chat channel is not an excuse for enabling those who desire to disrupt others by creating an open global chat channel.

I can speak for no one but myself, but my characters are parked on their ships if not actively engaged in some activity. I know most of the members of my guild have said they do the same.

I know some do - when I go onto my ship there's usually 6-12 others in a similar "ship instance" - that number is visible. But it's not nearly the same number that's on the fleet or most planet instances.

The chat from my ship's instances does not cross over the chat from your ship's instance, if I am not mistaken. This is much the same as chat from one group in an FP is separate from the groups in the same FP.

Chat crosses instances for both of those. You just don't see it much since, in a FP they're talking in the group channel, and on the ship people usually aren't looking to socialize.

If that is the case, then I am mistaken, although I have never seen any chat cross instances.

Even if that is the case, which would you prefer? Would you prefer to be in an instance with MAYBE 2 dozen other people in a similar instance that could potentially spam that instance's chat, or would you prefer to have to deal with a global open chat channel which EVERY player on the server could potentially spam?

I think I've made my stance on that one clear. I'd prefer having the global chat too. That way there's the general chat like normal, as well as a global chat that you can optionally show.

I've made my thoughts pretty clear, as well. I'd prefer NOT to have a global open chat channel that will inevitably become the easiest way for jackholes to try to disrupt other players gaming.

I've no real objection to an "automated" global LFG channel, using a system such as the one I suggested. After all, that is what is being requested, is it not? Is the request not simply for a way that those wishing to group can express their desires on a global scale and reach everyone on the server no matter their location?

Or, are you really looking for a way to spam and troll on a global scale, using the "if you don't like it, you can leave the channel" excuse?

I'll consider them a failure if I'd rather idle around the fleet than my house.
