Such a mind set, IMO, has proliferated over the last several years... though I remember it being an ongoing issue back in my WoW days.

Players in the old days actually took care to manage the reputation of their characters inside an MMO....because if you did not.. you got black-listed across the server pretty quickly. But now days.. with much more nomadic MMO players.... and little personal investment in their characters perceived integrity in-game.....they do whatever they think they can get away with. In that context.....not having a lot of personal energy and $ invested in your characters has been amplified some by the F2P (and even Preferred) subset. But that does not justify creating class warfare (sub vs Free/Preferred) discussions in the forum.
I'd say this translates into society at large too...

Again as many others has pointed out... its the person thats the issue not how much they pay.

Also I really think blaming the Generation Y/X etc crowd is again a huge issue at hand. While they have their fare share of spoiled brats... I have met just as many or more Spoiled Seniors...... People who feel they are entitled because of their age or because they have worked "harder" etc... Just because people are place blame for entitlement mentality on the younger generations does not give us the right to think that all these people doing this in game are young teens and 20 year olds.. I would bet you that quite a many of these a holes in game are actually people in their late 30's, 40's and older..

It's not a generational thing; If Baby Boomer had access to the internet and blanket anonymity, I'm sure things would have been about the same then. It's something that will be present with any group that has little consequence for behavior.

I appreciate all of your input. And i have learned (this has been my first MMO btw). And your replies have changed my direction of thought/conclusion.

Ive only played less than a year and still consider myself a newbie (probably always will).

It's funny, if I point out the non-respectable game-play, you read remarks like "nobody forced you to play" type of banter, which in my opinion, is a freshman mind set.

I really do appreciate you veterans helping me.

I hope you find more and more help.... I really find it frustrating when people do not help others.... this is a game we all enjoy playing.. if we make fun of and run off new players the game will eventually die....

Happens in every game, F2P or not. Put them on ignore, and move on. Still a good chance you will never run into that person again in the future anyways. If not try to run group content with a guild only. Plenty of good reputation guilds out there looking for respectable players to join them.

There is always that rare chance that the person who is needing on everything does not understand what they are doing wrong. They are new, and have no idea what stats they should be using for their class. Seeing as even on the starting planet any stat can be dropped off mobs / chests. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt on that. If they more or less tell you to muck off or ignore you completely then all you can do is Vote kick them out, and toss them on ignore.

Seems like 9 times out of 10 it is a new player who had no idea until someone mentioned it. I have noticed that 1/10 person seems far more common in some of the other games I have played as well. As far as the community on this game goes it is pretty high up there on standards. At least on my server

Exactly, and besides this a lot of people pay a lot of money so they can be a jerk to everyone around them.

A horrible possible future, if you ask me.
The same thing has been said about every generation, ever.

Look at the Baby Boomers, their parents won WWII and celebrated peace and prosperity by having lots and lots of babies, who grew up spoiled and rich. As teenagers they rebelled against their parents, used lots of drugs and had sex with anyone who was willing, and basically rejected their parents values and work ethic in favor of a carefree attitude about life.

For thirty years or so, these people have been the managers, CEOs of corporations, local and Federal government officials, the doctors and lawyers and everyone else who keeps the country running. And they've been doing a pretty good job of it, and are getting ready to retire and pass everything on to their children, a generation who grew up spoiled and rich, and rejected everything their parents believed in...

Or, for those of who are not jerks, if someone is fighting near a chest/gathering node/quest object, hang back and wait for them to finish. If they walk away without claiming it, it's free to take. If they take it, wait for it to respawn or find another.

You share the game world with other players. Remember sharing? Like, in Kindergarten when you're taught that you can't just punch the other kid and take his fire truck because you wanted to play with it.
