So I just based it on the actual story promotions / Titles you get in-game each chapter, which goes

Sergeant → Lieutenant → Captain → Major

I'm honestly open to suggestions about ways to color up the Trooper section, I know it's pretty quick right now but that's an extension of my aforementioned ignorance.

Well and also the Trooper class and story is so cut/dry/straight-forward, I kind of wanted to reflect that simple-to-the-point quality. There's a lot of tempting plot things I could reference (especially Garza...) but idk if it's ruining the Trooper tone.
I'll try to explain without getting too long winded.

You have Enlisted and Officer.
Enlisted start at E-1 in Boot Camp (generally fresh out of HS). NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers) are Enlisted equal to or above the rank of E-4. Sergeant is E-5. A SNCO (Staff NCO) is equal to or above E-6.
Officers start at O-1. They are the ones that went to college first and got a Bachelors in something. Lieutenant, Captain, and Major are Officer ranks (and in the correct order).
There are Officers who started out as Enlisted. Field Promotions however, I don't think occur very often anymore (if at all).

In my sector of the corporate world, enlisted are up to and including supervisors, while Officers are Managers on up to CEO.

It *IS* all good.

The ranks you chose make perfect sense.

OOC too, as a retired SNCO who spent 14+ years in special operations, I just found it a fun opportunity to poke a jab at all the baby LTs I worked with over 23 years. Good times.

A NCO, however, is a non-commissioned officer. (SNCO is a senior noncomissioned officer). NCO ranks are roughly E-4 to E-6, depending on the service, with SNCO ranks at E-7 to E-9. As someone above stated, you can roughly equate leadership responsibilities to supervisory for NCO and SNCO and management to officers. But that is a real rough generalization; though, by military law and regulation, certain responsibilities can only be given to officers.

But, that eternal movie cliche with the rough NCO or SNCO yelling at a pie-faced recruit that 'he works for a living' and who is ultimately the backbone behind the green-eared young officer has a certain genesis in reality.
Good. Bad. I'm the twi'lek with the saber.

And no one goes from Sergeant to Lieutenant.

Since it's already been explained, I won't beat that dead horse except to add that as previously stated, NCO's run the show. For the most part Officers are more administrative while NCO's are more "hands on." I'm sure there will be some Officers that will attempt to dispute this, but any NCO knows the truth.

(Point of order: Gunslingers can't hit anything at 100m. Max range is 30 or so.)
Correct. Most handguns have a max effective range of 30-50m.

Good post. I was ready to just read the first couple of lines, then dismiss the thread entirely, but it was pretty funny. Good job.

ROFL great post OP.

I think I can just about tick off a whole character worth of requirements, unfortunately they are spread across all 8 classes! I had expected the Warrior/Knight classes to require more sword fighting experience at which point I could have ticked off a lot more.

I thought this was gonna be another QQ....... Wow was I wrong. Loved it. Right on my wavelength.

How about a new post on the races?

- Cathar must be a cat. Chase string, sleep a lot, go out at night and like catnip. Delusions that they are actually tigers is a must. Topknot or braided hair mandatory. Cat-like name obligatory.

Ratatakki must be bald, greying, have a liking for facial tattoos piercings and a constant downer on how thay are so badly treated by the pureblood Sith. Additional moping a requirement.

Chiss. Blue is beautiful....Blue is best. Must not wash off in bath. Onions and lemon juice in eyes is acceptable.

Wookiee must be at least 8 feet tall. Must smell of damp dog. Must hang around starships thinking they're the co-pilot, and chief technician, when in fact they're just glorified draft-excluders.

Etc.

Why stop there?
  • Players wanting to compete in PvP must wear a shock-collar (this is mandatory as to feel truly shocked when they get their behinds handed to them )
  • Players wanting to participate in Flashpoints must get training at their local S.W.A.T. team
  • Players wanting to participate in Operations must have a medical licence (being a Surgeon classifies you as Raidleader )
