My name is Milind. I checked it again and can confirm you there is no bug with any companion in the game.

Or maybe use that money to get a booth at the events and try to attract new players?
Yes exactly! Marketing money should be spent to attract new players to the game. The cantina tours cater to existing players, and like you say, the chats could be done on the cheap, with many more current people participating. Perhaps, if they went on Reddit and did AMA's regularly or with different community members, they'd catch some more people in that way too.

1. I don't see a problem with it. They have budgets for each specific area of a business and EA is no different.

2. You say you want them to chat with the people in the forums? Have you read 90% of the forums lately? I don't think I would want to subject them to the rude and disrespectful behavior and language some of the people tend to sprout off in the forums. When people in the forums can behave like civilized adults instead of behaving like a child when they don't get their way maybe then I can see them having things like that with the forum individuals but at the moment there are few forum posters that know how to act like a respectful adult. For some reason doing thing where you can see a person the other person most of the time acts like a civilized adult when you have the internet people start behaving like a 2 year old child because they blame the internet for their behavior .

3. In addition, I can remember when they started doing these Cantina Tours people were asking them when they were coming to their city so it seems that there are quite a few people who actually enjoy the cantina tour and look forward to meeting some of the devs.

Actually marketing is not binary... as you are suggesting. Yes, you market for new players... but you also market to existing players too.

And let's not forget that forum membership kept tearing them a new one every week about sharing information AND interacting with players. Cantina's do that nicely.. and frankly... a little face time IS good marketing targeted at existing players.

I'm not saying the Cantina's are the best thing since sliced bread.... but they have indeed been popular and they do dove-tail most of them with other things they are doing.... like the San Diego event which coincides with ComicCon..... probably one of the best venue to market to SW fans (be they current subscribers, or potential new customers).

1. I understand they have a marketing budget. I just personally feel that their money could be better spent on other forms of marketing.

2. That's what moderators are for. The guests of honor never see 99% of the comments and questions.

3. No doubt meeting the employees can be fun. Though I went to a similar meet up for LotRO and thought it was boring. The entertainment value for the few people who can attend is not in question, the question is whether or not it's the best use of their marketing dollars.

I believe they would be better off having fewer "Canteena Tours" and actually having a presence in the conventions themselves. The San Diego Comicon has over 130 thousand attendees. A booth costs less than 3 thousand dollars. Unless they are getting some major discounts on the room rental and food service, they will be spending more than that to entertain 300 people.

TL;DR - let the event pass and let me click the link do Dulfy.net for the "news" and new pics.
How are people supposed to know to go to the event so there can be news for Dulfy.net if they never advertise the Cantina Tour?

Well, that's true enough, the forum as we both know can get nasty, but I still think if they answered questions here or did a stream thing or reddit that would be more effective. Good Mods are key, like Damask_Rose said.
More effective still, I think it would be better to spend the money on the major things like ComicCon that have major exposure.

Only a select minority ever get to attend the cantina events, so it actually touches a very few people. There are hundreds of thousands of people...maybe a million playing here? Never really sure how many actually play, but there are alot more than, just the handful that get these events.

You often say that only a small fragment of the population frequent the forums..well the population that gets to attend the cantinas is even smaller in terms of reach, and I think the money can be spent more effectively than entertaining a select few.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. :/

Well big deal! And they only started doing those recently. The fact that the 'Community Page' is just a forum proves that they are just over paid forum moderators. The dev tracker sees very little, if any, actual community love.

Wheres the posts to promote the few remaining fan sites? Wheres the actual in game community events that are LIVE? FYI both in Star Wars Galaxies and even in Wildstar, the devs did and could actually drop in a live event - not some generic 'Bounty Contract week'.

in SWG hundreds of Sand People raided Bestine and in Wildstar, the devs were testing out some new toys. Promoting other fan sites, talking about community members etc - THAT's community and that is their job.

Since day #1 the community team never had a single interest in a proper road map or they did but EA just weren't interested. Either way, its a sorry state of affairs for an MMO
