I'm sorry but your suggestion pretty much breaks the game.
That is why the trees would need to be reworked to include some abilities as skills. If you want the ability, in some cases, you would have to spec into that tree. I am not a balance wizard, but I would bet BW just might be... if they took their time, tested it out, and then rolled it out with 4.0.

Superman, you'd still have to grind 2 sets of gear and yes, you would essentially render many player's 8 classes useless since they can do the EXACT same thing with the other 8. Unless you've been through the gear grind on those other 8 classes you want to render obsolete then I don't think you really have a leg to stand on. Like I said, your idea might have made some sense at launch, but you can't tell those of us who have already rolled that other class to just accept your proposal. Are you going to suggest universal gear next? How about 1 attack button, 1 for jumping, and a 3rd for your emotes? Let's simplify the combat system while we're at it.

You cant have a tank/heal with 4 or 5 specs if only the hybrid is allowed to be shared.

In other words, once you choose a spec, you can only place points in your chosen spec and the hybrid if you wish.

You can respec to another role very easily, but you can not cover both roles at the same time.

So your choices in a 4 spec, with pure spec roles would be (IMO)...

Tank
Healer
DPS
Tank Hybrid
Healer Hybrid
DPS Hybrid

Thats it. The hybrid tree could perhaps have a few elements from each tree, but nothing that would "break" the game.

I think that's the real argument of most of the people against AC swapping but most won't admit it. I'll tell you right now that for everyone that's done that and is fine with it there are probably five or more people that think it's dumb to have to do that (some of whom wander off in disgust). I've got lots of knights and warriors myself, some can only use 1 saber, some can only use 2. Just like respeccing in Wow wasn't originally an option without rerolling or rolling an alt, this game has to grow up a bit (Francis).

A change like what the OP mentions would be fine if this game ever produces a "major" expansion but I'm not convinced they will at this point.

God no.

Don't cater to the bads who don't want to level, I like my advanced class, and I like my spec. You want to take it away from me I'll go down kicking and screaming.

Besides, 4 classes has no depth AT ALL. Eventually the scrubs will want to transfer whole classes, not just advanced classes. Scrubs always complain about something.

OK let's see:
  • Not wanting to level another character does not make you "bad" at the game, it makes you tired of leveling. While these can occur together, they are not connected. Many "bads" have like 20 characters they level halfway and then start another one, because they like leveling or easy content or whatever.
  • "Bads" is one of those words that helps stereotype "gamers" as unpleasant basement troll-nerds.

Whoa there, easy pony. The concept proposed has evolved to a design (@ekwalizer's, etc) that would keep your abilities and spec intact. Pop a valium and relax, no need to OK Corral this one.

There is no objective truth to this statement AT ALL. Number of classes does not indicate depth.

It is completely possible for a small number of classes to be designed with extreme depth and complexity. It is also completely possible for a bloated number of classes to be shallow and uncompelling (see: Final Fantasy).

We're back to those words that help create people's negative stereotypes of gamers...

And bads at rhetoric will continue to be scrubs and type scrubby illogical responses to pro discussions. Don't be a scrub at communicating. L2debate. Bads at forward thinking will always oppose change. etc. etc. etc.

Boy, that's irritating, isn't it?

Let's be clear: that you don't like the idea? Fine. It's a provocational one. That you see flaws in it? Also fine. It is flawed. That you see it as utterly unnecessary? Fine. It is utterly unnecessary.

You can express all of those thoughts without resorting to imitating a 10 year old Xbox Live player.

No pls.
Sure lets just delete a third of the specs in the game to dumb down it even more.

I still think it's plain stupid to use resourses on something that can be achieved with a simple AC switch feature.

It's not just talents, you will need to push several AC skills into the talent trees aswell. That is unless you dont mind tank getting healing skills.

And tank getting healing skills is just the beginning, some AC got trained stuns and mez that the other AC doesn't have. The restructuring and balancing would take alot more work than you imagine, probably alot more than even i imagine.
