That said, if you move from the car analogy to high-end TVs, I know a number of shops that will let you buy a top-of-the-line widescreen TV, try it for a while, and let you return it for another one if you don't like it. They do require that you pay a restocking fee, however.
Define "a while"?

Do they let you keep using that tv until the next model is released, or it's no longer the best tv out there(opposite AC is buffed)?

It's not the same class. It's a DIFFERENT class, both in the eyes of the devs and the eyes of many players. The fact you want to see them as the same class, because that helps justify your desire to see class changes implemented, does not make them the same class.

An assassin is a melee DPS/tanking class with stealth. A sorcerer is a ranged DPS/healing class with no stealth.

That player leveled that character as an assassin, not as a sorcerer.

This may be a game, but some things should still have to be earned. After all, the fact that I have leveled several characters to 55 and geared them does not entitle me to create instant max level characters of a new class, or even the same classes. I still have to level each new character.

i meant if someone had allready leveled the desired AC to level cap why should they have to do it again?

Actually, I'm about as casual as you get for a player who subs. I can't speak for anyone else, obviously, but I am anything but hardcore.

I'm speaking from an MMO standpoint, where class changes, historically, are not a common feature. There's just too much involved. If there's a major MMO out there that allows class changes I'm unaware of it.

AC change is a class change. At it's core, switching from a Sage to a Shadow is the same thing as switching from a Sage to a Vanguard or from a Shadow to a Scoundrel. Granted there are a few less skills to worry about, but ultimately they are just as complex. It's costly in terms of dev time, prone to bugs, issues and complaints, and fundamentally unnecessary.

If you leveled a Marauder to 55, you aren't being "punished" because you can't swap out with a Jugg on a whim. You've been rewarded with exactly what you are entitled to, a max level Marauder.

If you leveled a Jugg on a different server, transfer it to your new one. You aren't being punished for not being able to instantly have a max level marauder on both servers. You've been rewarded with exactly what you are entitled to, a max level marauder on one server.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

If they already have the AC they want, why do they need AC change at all? If the toon is on a different server, move it. If it's on the same server, use it. Where's the issue?

times they are a changing.. more and more mmo's seem to be moving away from class roles in favor of character progression

Name changes are already in the game, and if this is about being able to transfer stuff from one toon to another, let's move the discussion to binding more gear to legacy rather than a particular toon. That at least is easier to implement, and with fewer potential pitfalls, than something like changing your class.

Yes, that is so. Read the quote I had quoted in that reply and you'll see where the word fit into that remark by me.

It can be hard keeping up with internet threads, so I understand you getting all excited and assuming I used that word in reference to the players, but you're wrong.

And pointing out that the only argument against it seems to be to punish players for picking wrong or becoming bored with their spec, doesn't make the players "victims" either...it simply points out that the only argument against it is for punitive reasons...as I stated.

Lockouts. Preference. Progression gaming. All reasons a player might feel the need to have multiple of the same ACs. Why do you care?
