The only issue for me is that part of what SW so appealing is the ludicrously-rich and detailed complexity of the universe. Reading Wookieepedia is almost as complex as reading Wikipedia about RL — the SW galaxy lives and breathes down to the tiniest silly detail.

If you strip that away for the sake of simplicity, now it's much closer to just another sci-fi universe and has to re-build all those layers, while playing a constant "Wait... is this still canon? Oh, no, he's blue and from Ord Cantrell now. "

Still fun, but not the same.

On the other hand, it gives you a clean slate and a chance to wipe out a lot of convoluted stuff that has to keep getting hammered and smushed into 'working' because of 40+ years of chaff and buildup and total philosophy changes about the galaxy and its stories.

Hm.

I guess time will tell.

Couldn't agree with you more, glad to see I'm not alone in my opinion.

I just hope there is some room for what is depicted i.e. the cultures, the technology etc. rather than what actually happened, to stay alive. But I think those parameters are going to be increasingly defined by the fans.

EU will always be the REAL canon- this new stuff is just a Star Trek-style alternate universe. And you aren't a true SW fan if you don't agree.

I'm ashamed to admit that I actually saw Boll's Dungeon Siege movie.

The funniest part was the SFX that happened when Statham "leveled up". I kid you not, there was actually a LEVEL UP animation around the actor. O.o

50 percent of the EU can be razed and obliterated and I wouldn't care, but the good stuff, thrawn especially and the old republic era, deserves preservation and adaptation. I'd really rather they make a mainstream star wars universe and expanded universe, and a cinematic universe that is composed of the original movies and the new movies.

I also admit to watching this. The only reason I didn't turn into a vegetable from watching it was cause of "The Stath" and Ron Perlman.
