I encountered serious problems in the past. I solved it by changing resolution until the game played smoothly. Some resolutions simply wouldn't give me more then 5 fps.

"Serious" gamers should not use AMD cpus.
This is just ludicrous. AMD owns gaming right now.

Lol, clearly they do:

Click any game. An Intel CPU will top every chart, and usually multiple CPUs before you get to the best AMD result. AMD is barely competitive.

EDIT: the only place where you could claim AMD "owns" gaming is on integrated GPU/CPU parts, which frankly, nobody cares about. Once you make the jump to a discrete GPU, Intel is superior.

You obviously know what you're typing about.

I'm not going to claim to know one way or the other.

But at least NoFishing cited something that supports his claim. Where's yours? Or should everyone just take you at your word that "AMD owns gaming right now"

No, I'm not going to be bothered to make links. Everyone is free to do their own research.

just depends on what you mean by "owning"..

AMD is very much for the budget minded. 99% of people may not notice the few frames per second difference between the high end AMDS and even a low end i5.

they WILL notice the price difference of a few hundred bucks here and there.
So if a few dozen FPS is worth an extra few hundred bucks by all means. If on a budget and not overly concerned about draining a few extra FPS or performance metrics out of a machine AMD is perfectly fine.

I personally prefer Intel and own an i7 which is essentially overkill for just about anything i do. Its also on the order of 3 years old and still more powerful than anything that I need and hopefully continue to do so for a few more years yet.

I probably wouldn't say the same thing about an AMD proc from the same time period. They are cheap, but I dont' think they hold their value quite as well as other processors.
