Happens all the time and it's pretty annoying when they don't whisper what they need help with first. It's extra annoying on EU servers where a good deal of the population can't speak proper English. So in the event that they do whisper it'll be something you have to decipher first. Then there's the random "help" in general chat, makes me wonder if the person is an idiot under the impression that there's only one thing in the game a person possibly could need help with so that the rest of us instantly will know what it is and come to his/her rescue.

I get a few, but unless I get a message I just ignore it most of the time. They used to bother way more than they do now. I still don't like 'em, but its not a big deal.

Of course when someone starts spamming them its a problem. I may ask if they need help after the first one or two but with no response other than another invite, they go on ignore.

Back in the day it got o bad in City of Heroes that you pretty much had to set preferences to autodecline or go mad.

Yeah there seems to be a fair number of 'entitled' people on the game who automatically feel the world is there to serve them. Call them rich, lazy, spoilt whatever.

It was the same on SWG after spending close to a year grinding a Jedi, this kid stands in Mos Eisley and DEMANDS I give him a lightsaber and make him a Jedi, when I refused he said he was going to get angry if I didn't comply, I laughed so hard I cried, but it is the same here, so I think every MMO has an element of this dip-*******y to it.

Right up to date with SWTOR, we had a guy join our guild who from the moment he joined started asking for stuff, be it credits or mods etc, and that is all he ever talked about and they only time he ever did talk, eventually he wanted full access to the guild bank after a few days, when we refused he blew up, cursing everyone in the room and promptly quit!

It is the nature of these games I fear, and I feel your pain OP.

I like how, when you're playing one of the HM variants of levelling flashpoints (esp hammer station), there's sometimes a noob, out there, alone, who is requesting "help" in the general chat of the flashpoint, because they can't solo the SM version but they really really need the mission done. Replies of "use the group finder" are generally ignored as they continue to request help and can't figure that anyone reading them is already in a group or just as clueless as they are.

Relax guy. Not that much to be upset about.

When they ask, say this.

"Sure, How much are you offering? Standard is 250k per hour."

Let him come on the boards ranting about people "ripping him off" on power leveling. ;p

Anyway, being that this was before I got too jaded by bad behavior, I figured what the heck, said "Sure", and got on the speeder to head over.

I used to offer to help anyone before I left if I was on a low planet. Take a level 50 about 5 minutes to do anything on a low planet. Answered a couple of help requests when the game was new and people didn't know how to do alot of things.

Much different today (as it always is as the game ages). Now I get tells like, "can I have a million credits? C'mon, UR end game, dude, you can afford it".

I tell them to meet me way on the other side of the planet from where they are, and tell them to hurry.....then go on my merry way.

No reason why this can't be fun, people. ;p

I think you're right...its an MMO thing, not a SWTOR thing....

I used to play WoW, oh about 5 or 6 years ago. I tried it because a coworker and the first sergeant I had then were into it and I overheard them talking about it. They asked me to get the game and join them so I did. They both had high level characters and offered to give me gold and help me level and all that. I didn't want to do that, I only aked them for help in game when I really really got stuck. Call me crazy, but I'd rather be able to do things myself rather than have a personal 'superfriend' to come bail me out all of the time.

Ultimately I didn't enjoy WoW so much, so I quit.

I'll usually help with a mission or 2 IF they whisper me and ask first. This past 2xp weekend I was playing my Sith Assassin who runs with HK as a companion. I was back on DK to finish up chapt 1, when this random guy whispered me begging for help with a class mission. So me being the nice guy I am, I said ok. When I get to where he is, I inspect his gear & instantly see why he's having problems despite being 2 lvls higher than the mission. He's a dual saber sw with this random assortment of gear on. Lol He had light armor w/willpower in the chest slot, pants with cunning, etc. He literally had NOTHING equipped that was strength. I told him this is why he's having problems, and gave him a few pieces of the correct gear I happened to have. He'd never played an MMO Before and had no idea what he was really doing. So I explained the basics as best I could, helped with his mission, and sent him to check out Dulfys guides. Thankfully I haven't run into anyone asking for money & power leveling yet.

That's cool, and I would have done the same. Its one thing to ask for help and another to ask for power leveling. Heck when I first started playing I ran with mismatched gear too until someone explained it to me.

I don't mind been asked, do mind when I have said no and get bombarded with continuous invites by the same person until I hit ignore. As for asking strangers for help, it depends on what help. Asking for creds is a no-no, asking for help to get a datacon that requires two players is acceptable even from strangers, Come on we have all been there right?

I really have enjoyed reading this thread because I know where you are all coming from, but as mentioned in one post you can change you preferences. Only keep mine open because I do like to help with the datacons for all who need it when you must have two players to get it.
I agree with the OP in he's response to one post, its OK and good to do a little venting, nothing wrong in that. No one is been forced to read or post in this or any thread.

10/10 for the thread though.
