Ok smart ***....run mass effect 3, or any game that you have running the Unreal 3 Engine ON THE HIGHEST SETTING. Then run SWTOR ON THE HIGHEST SETTINGS.

The unreal engine is tested and optimized far better than the Hero engine.

But anyway. Thank you guys for being ***** and ruining a light-hearted post about an idea I had. This community reminds me of how much I hate interacting with people in this game....you all need to deal with your personal negative issues in a much more productive and healthy way.

Don't know why this needs to be said so much but the real hero engine is actually optimized really well. The problem with swotr is they used code that was still being worked on and then heavily modified it. What swtor is running right now is pretty much not the hero engine.

The Unreal engine has had way more development hours spent on it and its many iterations than the hero engine, and is designed specifically with graphical performance/fidelity in mind, so it had bloody well better look and run circles around the Hero engine in that regard or something is sorely amiss.

The Hero engine is designed specifically for developing MMO's and came with a lot of features built into it that would have allowed the team to save hundreds (if not thousands) of man hours by not having to write their own bespoke code for core MMO components/systems.

Could they have written the game to use another, more spangly engine? Yes, but not without increasing costs and lead time by a significant amount, in the end using the Hero engine allowed them to spend less time/money building systems and more time/money building the story content which most agree is one of the games strongest points.

You reap what you sow, you came in flapping your gums about engines and how you would have done things differently with no regard for any of the other multiple considerations that are made when developing a game of this scale and were (for the most part) told why your idea's are bad/misguided. Grow a thicker skin or make less silly posts.

For one, I wasn't "flapping my gums". Last time I check these were words and letters, and I do not have mouths on my fingers. I given maybe 3 or four actual critiqued post while the others basically just typed bull **** for lack of better words.

But anyway.
Like I said in posts above, Bioware has already used the Unreal engine in the past, so we were maybe looking at an extra year of development or so since they already enabled mutliplayer in one of their games with the engine with EA server-sided hosting (since we are getting all technical now). They would just have to rework some networking code to allow for a larger number of clients (the players) to be able to coexist on a server at a time which I can understand can be brain-numbing, but at the same time this is why they are video game developers, and as developers it's smarter to work with an engine that is already tested and used by the development team to build upon what they already know about the engine, or build something new from the ground up rather than use a buggy alpha engine and tack on maps, animations, models, etc. That to me is kind of lazy especially with the budget they were/are working with, but luckily for them it worked mostly due to familiar-yet-overdone game MMO mechanics and the SW licensing.

Because people run this game on high end machines that can play way more demanding games on ultra and struggle to get 30 fps in this game? The engine for this game isn't optimized well at all.

Why don't they hire some college interns to switch the game over to the unreal engine? ITS SO EASY.

I'd cut PvP, and let 'em whine on somebody else's forums. As I look at some of the more recent changes, I can honestly say that "we didn't want people using OS/FB as a single target skill, so we made it a skill that's really only good for single targets" comes back to "PvPers were whining about it, so we had to nerf it with a cover story", especially considering recent changes to both Flash Bang and Focus/Rage trees. My response to the inevitable QQ? Cry me a river, and move on. The sad thing? I'm not even anti-PvP. I'm just anti "nerf the hell out of PvE to accommodate it". Allow me to throw out the PvPer's battle cry: L2P...
