I understand what you are saying. Introducing a new tier of gear and some balance changes isn't much compared to actual new content. They are copying WOW with the ranked seasons. A new season just began in WOW a couple of days ago. Just off of personal experience. The first month of a new season brings the most activity. People try different classes and different comps with the new class changes. More importantly there's more gear to grind. PvP activity probably declines the most in the middle of a season, because that's when people have full gear. It picks up again at the end, because a lot of people are going after the end of season rewards. This is happening in SWTOR. Rancor mount gets announced and people flood into solo ranked queue. Before rewards, they were dead, right? I don't even know. I barely play this game.

Rewards drive most MMO players. Gear, novelty items, titles are all rewards. Dont get me wrong. I'm not saying all players are motivated by a gear grind. A lot of die-hard players will play the game just to play the game. But I have a feeling most reach a gear point and consider their character finished. Finished characters are less likely to be played. Most people will roll an alt, play another aspect of the game or quit. Most people don't finish a character to play ranked content with no reward. Even if someone continues to play fully geared, they probably won't be playing as much as when they were gearing that character up.

How many players play one more warzone, because they are really close to getting that next piece of gear? How many people log on to just do the daily and then switch characters or do something else?

Grinds can still be enjoyable. I don't think most people look at grinds as a bad service. You should know they are a part of MMOs when you subscribe. The grind isn't there to keep the dedicated players. Those players will play the game regardless. Its the casuals and people who aren't yet hooked that need the motivation to keep playing. That's how most successful MMOs work.

Finally, about "stretching the grind": you can dilute poo all much you want, in the end it still smells, tastes and looks like poo. Quit thinking everybody playing SWTOR are completely dumb and can't feel they are being siphoned off their money with nothing valuable and fun given in exchange.
The buyback weapon exploit should be fixed. Announce it early that they are going to fix it, so you don't overly anger anyone who is saving them up. They are stupid for not fixing this already.

Stretching the grind out over the course of weeks with caps would be a huge improvement to their gearing system, regardless if you are for or against the new tier of gear. Weekly caps is a great system for casual players and people with alts.

People might complain about gear grinds, but they help with activity. Active player base means better queues. Better working elo system. More money for development.

I'd agree if new content was added more frequently.

Kids these days and their instant gratification mentality... sigh

Leet stuufz shoudl take hard work and dedication to get. As it is everyone and their grandmas can have BiS gear in a reasonnable time.

@ the pseudo real PvPer that thinks gear shouldn't matter ? GW2 is right there. As it is right now you can be competitive due to bolster in any gear.
Fail thinking right there.

Flood into ranked? LoL, ok. I stopped right there. Nothing else to see.

Here's what none of you get. This isn't about dedicated PvPers, it's about the casuals on the non PvP servers. Many only queue to get their weeklies done. When they have a full set of obroan they stop. This is to keep PvP relevant to the casuals, to keep them queuing. The real question is, do you want just PvPers queuing and the resulting long queue times or do you want more frequent pops?

I'm thinking that even the casuals would prefer more maps over having to spend weeks, if they just do the dailies and weekly, regrinding another set of gear.

A couple more new 8v8 maps along with different rewards for queuing would probably go a lot further that another set of PvP gear.

/bump

This dude summed it up nicely. I would not mind the grind if there were some significant statistical benefit. But grinding is not a substitute for actual content. Surely BW has seen the increase in solo ranked pops. That should be a clue...more maps, more rewards, more people PvPing , more subscribers, profit.

Exactly - grinding for the sake of grinding is not content.

I don't see the argument behind this petition.

People claim it to be a grind to get the new gear, but you'll be playing the game regardless.

I guess my real question is..

Why is it only considered a grind when there's something to work towards? You'll be doing warzones and getting comms for them regardless if there's a new tier or not. Instead of sitting at the cap or juggling 10's of mainhands around to keep them from binding, you'll actually have something to spend them on.

Besides, a new tier of gear could possibly bring new *********** SET BONUSES. (but I'm not holding my breath).

There's the red pill. It's grinding because they are tired of doing it. You get tired of doing it and it is no longer fun. You will be doing it anyway, even if you don't have gear to work toward, because it is the only PvP you got. The red pill points out the real problem here.
