Well, one of them did. James's Scottish courtiers all assumed his capital would be in Edinburgh; when he moved down to London and made that his capital they were a bit upset. His English courtiers oddly weren't.

I'm really not confusing the two. My statement was about their views with regard to being British. Most people don't care about things like that, because it has no impact on their day-to-day lives.

As an interesting ***-bit of information, I believe there was a survey that found that people from the South East of England are more likely to identify as being "British", rather than "English". People from Scotland are more likely to identify as being "Scottish", rather than "British".
