"Easy to implement"? You really think so? Do you have any idea what it takes to implement a new system like that? There's a lot more to it than you think. They have to consider balance, which would take a long time. If they add this it won't be any time soon. That has nothing to do with Star Wars, and though it would make the game more immersive, there a lot more that needs to be done to add immersion, much higher on the priority list.

People use their imagination all the time in MMOs to be more immersed. You can do it too, if you want.

This is Star Wars, not Elder Scrolls.

I agree with those against it because it doesn't really fit Star Wars, specifically that we're playing these heroic people. There's a point of suspending disbelief for a game where it's too much. Sure we fight in arenas and die blah blah like OP throws out as an excuse that fishing/cooking would be fine lore wise, but those are understandable suspension of disbelief out of necessity. Fishing and cooking in their base form like in fantasy MMOs is not -- neither is real-world holiday crap being driven around the world but I digress. Plus just cause another MMO does it doesn't mean it fits here, all the MMOs that do it are strictly fantasy mmos not sci-fi or sci-fi/fantasy cross like Star Wars is since it's not strictly scientific based like Star Trek.

Now if they wanted to do a new spin on fishing and cooking focused more say on companions doing it I'd be for that idea. But I think out of all the mini-game or craft type stuff that time and money could be put into this should be pretty low priority after releasing new content or mini-games that fit with lore better like Pazaak, Sabaac, Dejarik, Pod Racing, general gambling stuff at the Nar Shaddaa casinos.

Also, why not tell people, just IMAGINE that green/blue/orange/red/purple vanilla lightsaber is actually the color you want!

Yea right, imagine.
Actually, in the first 6 months we DID run a cross faction fight club in the outlaw den on my server. people placed bets and it went perfectly. btw people who are grouped (meaning up to 4 people as raids didn't work properly in outlaw den) cannot harm each other. If you win, you got a cut of the bets, as do the people who bet on the winner, and the house took a small cut.

No, it wasn't a pvp server (you honestly expect something that organized and civilized to come out of one?) it was an RP server, and once word got out of what we were doing pvpers would roll on our server for our weekend fight clubs. People went there just to watch, and RPers would RP on the sidelines while people faught in the pit. Occasionally people would get clipped by AoEs and everyone laughed as it was part of the danger of standing too close to the pit.

Every so often people would try and troll us but when everyone there is organized...the odd troll would be obliterated and any guild that tried to troll the place quickly got destroyed with the guild being marked by everyone there as being blacklisted (saw several larger guilds get blacklisted out of existence by the RP community).

What we used to do actually makes the arena's they gave us look like total crap considering people could actually watch and you could actually BET on the outcome.

I'm not gonna go to the mat defending fishing, but the "it breaks lore" argument is dead. If that's your best counter-argument, you have already lost.

yes the whole point was about the fact that, if you can imagine or organize it, doesnt mean it cant be implemented as well. Not implementing systems because you can ''imagine'' them is not a good argument, that was the whole point.

Not Elder Scrolls, not WoW, not Aion, not GW2, not Rift....

I see your point, now look at mine, its an mmo after all.

Edit> Btw, what do you mean by balance? i mean what possible unbalanced situations can come from implementing cooking and fishing ??

Fishing in MMOs is the worst thing invented, ever. It's like all the developers way of trolling their players.

I wouldn't mind some kind of cooking, though.

But for old timey's sake, here's a post from Goeg Zoeller about why no fishing in swtor.

old post is old, they were also saying back then this game would never go f2p and couldnt even bear players wearing outfits not iconic to their roles/classes

Btw that guy left bioware after doing more harm to this game than good check the threads

Cooking leads to fishing, hunting, and gathering though.. so while cooking can be a fun diversion in an MMO.. mostly they are tedious resource gathering.. and we have that already in game. Now.. if they put stores in game that sell all the food components.. maybe.

The thread has degenerated down to "Fishing is appropriate!" "Nuh uh!" "Uh huh!" "So's your face!"

The majority don't seem to agree with fishing being part of the game. Maybe it's time to simply shrug your shoulders and abandon the thread.
