I think the problem for people who've already paid, but can't enable without another purchase, is having the card information saved. I never saved my card information, and someone up there said they updated their details since the last purchase.

We'll just have to wait to see if they can fix it.

Either way, if you're telling me that using new cards or having to update expiration dates is disqualifying people that have previously made CC purchases on their credit cards, then that is the dumbest system and I can't believe it took this long to implement it. How freaking hard is it to have a simple system check that only allows users to enable the feature if they have any previous purchases credited to their user account? I can pull up my entire credit card purchase history on my account page so obviously the data necessary to run such a system check is readily handy.
Don't get upset with me...I'm just trying to help you trouble shoot it.

It is shocking that a game that insists on one-time passwords and security keys doesn't support a secure payment method like Paypal for its latest purchase feature.

Instead subscribers like myself that have paid for the game via this method since July 2011, now must use a credit card to pay for a cartel market item, just so we can get a 50% discount on buying another Cartel Item in game.

How does this benefit subscribers? Are you just trying to get all our credit card details on record? Do you really think people are stupid enough to spend more money, just to get a discount on something they don't really need? (ok some are but it isn't right)

I wonder if the in game feature will support Paypal after Nov 30th when the discount ends?! This stinks real bad EA...

Question... are you able to put recurring subscriptions on PayPal such that they autobill Paypal without your intervention after you set up a recurring sub???? If not.. there is your answer right there.

A PayPal debit card should work though.
Yes, yes you can. In fact that's how I've been subscribed for the past year and a half. SWTOR is allowed to automatically bill Paypal for the given amount whenever my subscription time runs out.

This is not exclusive to subscription services either - I've seen it done by certain online game stores with one-off purchases, where after my first purchase, subsequent transactions were pre-approved and did not require logging into Paypal. There are clearly other options, it's just a matter of implementing them.

What really gets my goat though is that even with debit and creditcards they haven't bothered to implement such a system. All they've done is allow automatic repeat purchases based on previous verification through the website - and this is something that took them months to implement?!? It's the most lazy solution they could have chosen and it seems to be buggy (just read the Cust. service forums) to boot. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a bit higher standards from a triple AAA company. :/

Fair enough.

Are you allowed to purchase CC on the website using Paypal? How exactly does the transaction work, process wise?

My guess is that the game based system uses a somewhat different merchant transaction system then the website. That's not an excuse.. it's an observation. And they may ultimately fix it... given that their statement is: "not at this time"

I understand. However what other companies merchant transaction systems do or do not do is NOT relevant. Different systems are wired and designed differently. Again, an observation, not an excuse.

Personally, I refuse to use Paypal for transactions precisely because I personally have found way too much variability in how it works (or bugs out) on different merchant sites across the internet, whereas my credit card works the same way everywhere.

I am confused. Before this change I bought CC twice using my credit card. Now I wanted to activate the in game feature, and it states I need to make a web-based purchase first.

Same credit card? You tried to activate in-game purchasing here first?

Yes, it's the same card. When I try to activate it here on the website it pops a message about that requirement.

There's nothing on the Cartel Market that I want. How about a Sateel Shan outfit? That would be cool. But I'm really wanting another planet or two. More class stories. I can't get myself to do the older flash points. I'm only doing the two new OP's at this point. We really need a full round of flash points like four or six. The current ones for those of us that have been around since launch are stale and old now. And we keep seeing ways to spend money on useless crap in the Cartel Market.
