I guess it depends on which server you are on and which fleet you are on.

On the Republic fleet on Jung Ma, people are tripping over each other trying to answer noob questions. And then there is always somebody saying "Press Alt-F4" as a joke. The only time people start calling each other names is over real life arguments or which guild has the best PvP.

The Imp fleet is 50/50: half the time they are helpful and the other half make fun of noobs.

Fleet, starter and capital planets are full of rubbish, other planets tend to be ok in the main in my experience.

Well I recently switched from a PVE to a PVP server. The PVP server seems worse but not by much. It's frustrating because I don't want to keep going in and out of general, but my ignore list is getting out of control...lol.

^ This. PvP servers in MMO's have more of the "Killer" gamer personality type population and less of the "Explorers" and "Socializer" gamer personality types. "Killers" tend to want to pick a fight and tease other people. "Explorers" want to share their knowledge and "Socializers" just want more people to talk to, so they help people.

PvP servers are almost always worse in chat than PvE servers.

(Jung-Ma is a RP-PvP server, but we tend to have more "Socializers" due to the RP part of it and more of our "Killers" are a "Killer" - "Socializer" hybrid that is nicer to new players.)

OK because GC is almost empty aside from the occasional "LFG Heroic 4."

I will say this, the difference of communities between SWTOR and LOTRO is night and day. I'll leave it at that, anyone who has played both knows.

I completely agree with you. I've played WoW, Lotro and SWTOR. SWTOR seems to be somewhere in the middle, but Lotro has an absolutely fantastic community of players. People are cordial, kind, and willing to help each other with anything (apart from the random jerk). As everyone in the world knows, WoW is just terrible.

I guess part of writing this post was because I compare most MMO communities to Lotro. Wish they were all like that.

First, not everyone in the game is an *@ss. Some of you are making it seem that every person in TOR is an @ss, guess that includes you too. Second, turn general chat off. I learned that day one.

Alarec - I'm not saying everyone is like that. There are a lot of people that have been helpful, like I said, especially on starter planets. The problem with turning general off is that I'm on a PVP server, so I'd like to know when a pub is ganking people in the area or if I need or want to help other people with quests.

It isn't just in general either...it's everywhere. I'm sure a lot of you see them in random groups, when you're just trying to get an instance or a quest done. Or my favorite, when I'm killing mobs to get an item that they're standing in front of on the ground, some jerk runs in and grabs it while I'm busy fighting.

I think general chat is a good example of how stupid the current youth in America are.
