Whoa whoa whoa..

whoa..

Whoa.

First, now I've gotten under your skin.
Second.... I do keybind, fool. Read before you respond. I've said it at least twice in this thread.
Third....

You are not the end all authority on the matter.

"max efficiency"? What do you think this is? It's a V I D E O G A M E. Get off it. Go outside and get a hobby or something.

It is not up to you to "inform" people of how they are "wrong" in a V I D E O G A M E.

Throughout the course of this thread (and others) you have repeatedly shown your lack of tolerance as well as your lack of calm in the face of a disagreement.

So, effectively... if this were a competition I would win because.. you are now frustrated.

Still, you would do well to learn that nobody likes a dominerring, egotistical know-it-all (and I can promise you: You don't know half of what you speak about).

Keybinding is great.
Clicking is fine.

This game babysits clickers, auto follow your target once you started casting.....no wonder there are so many people backing the slower, inferior method of controlling your toon.

However to support your cause I would like you to backup my driving in 1st gear only theory. I am lazy and dont want to change gear, im gonna get where I want to in 1st gear and there is nothing you can do about it, dont tell me I drive wrong, I just drive different, I still get there so its ok, ok?

Thanks for coming, see you in another game where behind is los and the game dont help you get there, enjoy the clicking then.

The most efficient play style incorporates a mix of keybinding and clicking.

Many of the "serious" players use a 20 button mouse to bind their skills. This inherently puts much more work on their mouse hand, which is being used to rotate the camera and control directions.

In my theory, being able to play effectively with only my keyboard is equally important as being able to play with only a few keys and my mouse.

This is not an issue if you are a casual player, but if you do back to back warzones for 5 hours straight with few breaks, wrist or thumb attrition becomes an issue. My guild pretty much does that every night.

Clicking can get you by but you're really hurting yourself and your full potential by not giving keybinds a shot.

Indeed it is, but it is not the only way to play.

That's like saying that using a joystick is the THE only way to play Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Is it better? Probably
Is it more fun? I suppose
Ultimately, can you accomplish roughly similar results without using the joystick? Sure. You can even match joystick results if you are nimble-handed.

Do I need to restate the argument?

For the record, and for every poster who continues to accuse me of clicking simply because i trash the notion that keybinding> all ........

When I WAS a clicker, I knew my limitations. I didn't dare engage 1v1, I tried not to get anywhere out of range of my team or healer, and good luck getting me to play full DPS (in fact.. I tanked)

But I had as much fun then as I have now. I was able to contribute to objective PvP because I remained situationally aware and played objectives, not deathmatch.
To be absolutey fair, I always used the left mouse button to flip the camera around.

I made a 2 step transition. First to keybinding (on an Anansi) then to using a Gamepad (Orbweaver).
Has my play improved? Probably. More than that.. my playstyle has changed and I am no longer bound by the limitations imposed by movement restrictions. I can play full DPS and I don't shy away from a straight up fight.

It's been a while since I did this. Am I happy with the results? Yes, but I'm also more serious about a videogame than anyone should ever reasonably be. It's a competition to me, but it is not the same for all.

Are you correct in saying that it is better? Depends on how serious you are about playing a videogame and what your playstyle is.

Is it faster and more accurate? Yes.

Will you have more fun? Again, depends on how you play, how often you play.. etc.

For some.. they have enough fun clicking and are content to play the way they do. It is, after all, a videogame.

A source of entertainment, meant for fun.

There is also a video from a guy called swifty(https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=0WOUwxwz93k) that actually showed him using the mouse and W,A,S,D together. That worked for me. Don't worry about the hardware, I have none of those things and the mechanics still work. I hope that helps.

I also unbound S, Q, E, C,X,Y and Z and placed skill-functions on them. That way I have all needed skills for combat reachable. Here is an example of a setup I tested: http://i44.tinypic.com/15n3hty.png A and D are used now for strafing(I changed a few things at present), but that was some of the testing I did. You can bind strafing to anything as long as you are not confusing yourself. Set up the keys to what works for you(reaction, flexibility and reflexes mental and physical). You know yourself and abilities better than anyone on this forum.
Thanks for the tips. I actually have an idea of what I want to do. I use Shift+1,2,3,4,5,6 for my second bar but my fingers can't reach past 6 without putting myself at a disadvantage. So I think I'm going to assign shift+ z,x,c,v,b to expand and see how that works out. Again thanks, that was helpful.

Anybody telling new players that clicking is perfectly "fine" to do well at this game in pvp is basically giving newbies bad advice. Sure you can play this game simply clicking your ability bars but you will never play pvp at a decent level like that. You just won't, and its not good just saying people are trying to force you to keybind when they aren't really, they are just trying to point out the obvious. I'm not trying to force anyone to keybind, what I am actually trying to do is give them some practical advice on how to improve.

Keybinding, muscle memory will make you a better player in the long run. This thread is called "keybinding vs clicking" in which case there really is no contest on which will make you a better player. Clicking will limit you basically. Having a few modifiers like shift you will find a lot of those keys are in easy reach of your left hand, and it just becomes effortless. The best way to remember your binds is to bind them as you level up imo. Also try and make certain binds that are universal to the classes the same e.g my cc break is always shift and x on all my toons. I also use naga mouse but its not gamebreaking if you don't, just gives me a few more options that I cant reach with my left hand like 7,8, 9 ,0 etc.

Also a smart idea to bind your focus key, and follow focus target - I use F and shift and f for these.

I just cannot imagine any decent sorc or sage, dealing with pressure, kiting, throwing out heals, bubbles with any degree of success just by using a mouse cursor, and now i'm starting to see why so many people struggle with some of these classes. You should be able to press a key to trigger an ability the min you think of it, without looking at the keyboard - this is what muscle memory is. You need to be able to react and counter under pressure. Clicking will not let you do that if you fighting someone who binds. The only other people you will be battering is other clickers and newbies.

You have a right to play the game however you please, but telling newbies that clicking is fine is just basically a clear cut case of the blind leading the blind. Clicking will not make you a competitive player and players looking to improve their pvp or who are trying to get into pvp guilds/arena teams will struggle if they rely on a mouse cursor and nothing else.

Those seeking to improve at pvp and to continue to improve would do well to heed this sort of advice - keybind. If you are happy being mr respawn, and are not interested in improving your game don't bother.
