So it's now been nearly a week since the new RAF came out and it seems Customer Service still hasn't got a handle on this issue. People have reported that Bioware is aware of this issue and it is being investigated. Others, myself included have had our ingame tickets closed telling us it's working as intended.

What seems to be the issue here is that previously subscribed 'friends' regardless of how long they have been unsubscribed are automatically flagged as 'not eligible'. http://www.swtor.com/info/friends states that previous players are eligible if they had not been been a subscriber in the last 90 days. Since that is the ONLY real stipulation, the problem obviously lies somewhere around that in your code.

Could we get a real acknowledgement and/or update on this issue from customer service? Here are some threads related to this issue.

This is a big deal, you are trying to get new AND returning customers and their first experience back is nothing but bugs? My friend wants to give you his money, to sub, buy expansion and play with me, but he wants the free character transfer from RAF before he does so. If this takes too long he is apt to throw his arms up and just be done with it. I would think of all things you would be wanting to "fix" in this game is the part that should be bringing more customers and money into your pockets. This should have been a top priority fix...not something that has gone untouched for a week with Customer Service Representatives closing our tickets telling us that the system is working as intended. Either your website is wrong or CS is wrong in those cases. Because a free character transfer would be kind of silly for a new player right?

Just curious -- when you say "previously subscribed friends" -- do you mean people who have been referred in the past, but more than 60/90 days ago, and are now trying to return again?

Not sure if a previous referral disqualifies you, it doesn't say so, the only disqualifying factor listed on the website is you have been subbed within the last 90 days. In my case, my friend bought the game on pre-order, we even played beta together...he was never referred to the game through RAF. He quit 1.5 years ago so it's definitely been longer than 90 days. Out of the dozen links I posted related to this issue, i'm not sure if some people are trying to get a 2nd referral off the same person. There is definitely an issue here.

I quit not long after it came out and decided to give it a try again. So I re-activated my account and did the RAF for a second account. Three phone calls to tech support later (which is a complete joke), I was told they know there is a problem with the system but they have no idea when its going to be fixed or if they are even going to honor the people who went through this process right now and weren't given there benefits.

Sooo basically good luck to anyone who try's to do the RAF, hopefully you have better luck than I did.

I have referred 3 this past week, 1 completely new and 2 returning from early launch who quit a long time ago. The system does not appear to be working at all.
Even the smallest of light sources can light up the darkness.

This situation is really disappointing. I have a friend interested in returning to the game and probably re-subbing (but he needs a server transfer), and another that wants to join. Until this system is fix they are not going to do anything. I know they will enjoy the game when they get started, but I don't know how much longer I can hold their interest waiting for this bug to be fixed.

Is there any news on an ETA? I have even spent time creating about 10 new accounts/e-mails on my friends behalf to try and get an account to register as a referral... nothing!

Hi all,

Just an update on my progress, and some extra info to help you identify success.

After creating many new accounts (probably approaching 20 by now) I finally got one to register as a referral. So this looks like an intermittent issue. This is probably coincidence but it was the only account i created where the birthday was not set to 1.1.XX (except the first try by my friend)

What you need to look for to confirm success is after the new account is validated it will take you to a big green message that says;

Congratulations, you've been successfully invited to play Star Wars: The Old Republic by USRNAME Jump in now and expedite your adventures with a complimentary Jumpstart Bundle, an exclusive gift waiting for you in your in-game mail!

If it failed you will just get a standard account validated message.

The player account name will also show up in your referral list and specify the number of days they have to subscribe before the offer expirs.


Now I have the friend on the new account sorted out, I am going to start working on referring the friend who already had a previously sub. If I succeeded I will share any info I find out.

Good luck guys. Hopefully we will receive an official update from BW soon.
