True.

Also important to note, is why aren't there objective based 4mans? Having a random death match first, then logging on to a mini version of huttball should remain. Having a series of death matches seems silly.

The absolute simplest of solutions would have been to take that same tech that lets them rotate between 4 man and 8 man in regs...and apply that to ranked.

Edit: even if you don't que with a group of your 7 greatest buddies, you could at least hope to be paired with another solid premade AND ranked wouldn't be a never ending string of crappy TDM for those who've grown to enjoy objective pvp.

People who run three healer comps in ranked should not complain about stalemates in ranked warzones.

Thats my guess as why it just wasn't left in the game.

The numerous issues that 8v8 had mean it would have been a waste of development resources to build the logic in the new matchmaking system to also cater for 8v8 and therefore why update the queuing system to incorporate a feature that you know is broken and you dont have a fix for it.
This for certain, but I think the primary reason for the ending of 8v8 ranked matches is the OP's point regarding population. Let's face it, SWTOR does not have a particularly large PVP population. It's simply not robust enough to accommodate both 8v8 ranked and arenas. If people think it's hard enough right now to get ranked 8v8 matches, just wait until after arenas are launched. It will be very hard and if you do get matches, you will likely get the same one or two teams queuing and that's about it.

You want every part of your business to do well. Those areas that are languishing get either revamped or cut. This is simply what's happening. There simply isn't enough demand to support 8v8 ranked. As such, it has to go.

BTW...I'm sad to see ranked 8v8 go but there's no choice really.

You know why a lot of people were looking forward to ranked when it was announced? So we would not have to play with random derps in warzones. Alas, it did not happen, ranked was not complete replacement for normals except maybe for few guilds int 3-4 servers.

Lack of matchmaking caused normals to be bad experience. Good players need to cover for bad players not pulling their weight. Bad players getting farmed and stopping pvp altogether.

Arenas replace ranked in that purpose - having more accessible pvp mode where you do not have to have any randoms in your team as having 4 man group is easier and if you solo hopefully matchmaking pick players near your skill level.

As a bonus all people that hate playing objectives will flock to arenas so maybe normals will be better for people that like them.

In current state SWTOR is more casual game than some people want to admit. As such making more of the game accessible to wider playerbase would not hurt. Hell, I would not mind if F2P can play in arenas so quite a bit of retired players that do not want to pay sub can get online for them once in a while (think about this: ranked required full sub; ops had passes).

Although I never had a chance to play any ranked game (my guild is mostly PVE with some ppl playing PVP), I agree with Xinika.

There was never enough support for those "exclusive few" who played ranked.
Besides, Xinika mentioned some, hmm... "features" that certainly would take me off playing any ranked game, all that autoclickers, lag- boots, all kinds of cheats.

I would never cheat, I do not see any SENSE in doing that, what is an ACHIEVEMENT of this?

Do not understand why people do that.
So, bye ranked! I will not cry.

Why eliminate options to PvP?

Some people like competitive objective based PvP, why eliminate options for them? If you dont like deathmatch PvP as the only competitive option why are subjected to HAVING to do arenas only. Just like if you prefer deathmatch PvP, you were posting in forums to add arenas not to take away ranked wzs.

I disagree with BW removing ranked wzs.
I agree with you, I like competitive objective based pvp, mindless death match pvp is just glorified dueling. Why remove more content? do the devs even play this game or pvp in it?
