"I would argue such accounts are dead" is not quite the same as saying "In my opinion, BWEA should declare such accounts dead." So who's ignorant, the guy who argues in the face of obvious contrary facts or the guy who says "Learn to deal with reality and get on with playing your game?"

I think that fits right in to "taking charge of their experience."

If my experience with a game is sub-par -- I'll move on. If I care more about my name than about servers, I'll hop around until I find one that I can have my name on.

If I was in the OPs shoes -- I would've been proactive. I care quite a bit about my names, so I would've taken advantage of the multiple months warning that APAC players had, and the free transfers put into place to help alleviate some of the problems.

Is BW partially deserving of some hate? Sure. I also think they're partially deserving of some applause for at least *attempting* to make the situation less horrible. Free transfers, for a significant period of time; warning before the final consolidation; some type of priority system to help with name conflicts. Of course these still don't solve everyone's problems -- but it is better than it could've been.

Righting an old wrong with people who are still pissed about this issue over a year later or to take away tons of idle names from people that likely aren't coming back and risk pissing off a percentage of those that do come back?
People who create and reserve names for later use deserve those names just as much as anyone else. Regardless, most players adapt and move on. The players that will leave the game over a character name would not be long for the game anyways. It would not be long before they found another reason to leave the game.

The amount of people who really enjoy playing the game but cannot find it within themselves to keep enjoying it over the loss of a character name is very likely few and far in-between. The players that enjoy the game will adapt. Those that do not want to adapt have more issues with the game than their lost character name.

No, that's what YOU want it to be. Basically so you can get your way. Not universal fact.

Again, while I may not have made it abundantly clear in the line you quoted, I have in 2 posts sense then, this was not ever intended as fact, but as a suggestion as how I feel it should be handled. So yes you are 100% correct, congratulations on stating the obvious.

So why does your "lease" supposed to mean more than the next guy's "lease"? He could be busy just leveling another toon and still subbing. You don't know, do you?

Wow really? If he's still subbing then he's paying. If he's leveling another toon (unless it's a separate account) he's still logging in.

As far as why? Because business do what's in the best interest of making a profit, that's how businesses work. If I lease an apparent, then I just leave one day and stop paying. If I come back 6 month later I would likely find I was evicted and likely face legal troubles for failing to fulfill my financial obligations. Obviously this is a different scenario in that there is no agreement to pay for a certain amount of time like an apartment, but still if there is a limited resource (in this case quality character names) then it makes sense that once one is no longer in service to offer that out to someone who is actively paying to enhance the experience for your consumer and encourage them to continue to do business with you.
