You are all missing the big picture, which is the real problem:

Bioware literally expected everyone playing to be able to come up with a unique, pronounceable name from 26-lettters. This is completely impossible when it comes to the thousands of people playing on each server. The alphabet simply can't do that, and we have to resort to accented characters, misspellings, and unpronounceable garbage that we didn't want in the first place. Some people may not care, but to others a name is an identity. It's how you're known, it's the first thing people see when they meet you, and most importantly it's plastered all over your screen the entire time you're playing.

It's inane that no one over at BW thought of this. I mean, they coded this game literally from the ground up. They could have done anything they wanted, but no one over there put any thought into it, and here we are 2 years after launch still having dissatisfied customers over this.

Lack for forethought has been this game's biggest issues from Day-1. It permeated so many parts of this game's development that it's sickening to think of all the wasted money and all the people at BW who lost their jobs when the sub-numbers tanked because of it.

Your math skills are lacking. The amount of pronounceable combinations in the alphabet is staggering.

i'm not counting words like "desk", "lampshade", and "sink"; I'm not counter verbs like "running" or "grab" (I guess some people use adjectives like "Stinky" or "Smoking"). But I'm talking specifically about Names.

It's not a lack of forethought. It is a lack of creativity on the part of many players. It's so easy to come up with good names that aren't take and don't have special characters.

But, yeah, if you're taking a name from your favorite book or movie... someone else probably wants it just as much as you.

Seriously, though, I understand your feelings. Some of us pre-ordered the game so we could get early access, partly so we could be assured of getting the name we wanted. Maybe it was a carryover from another game we played. Or one we thought was really clever and we wanted to get there first. And then the server consolidations came. Suddenly a character that we have grown to know and love as a certain name is going to be forced to live with a name that looks like it was created by a 2-week-old noob to the game. And even adding "Founder" to the end of the name doesn't really help that.
I don't fully understand why I have to keep repeating myself.

i pre-ordered. I played in the beta. I got in early access and reserved my character names then lost them all in the first server merge, and now the second. You all keep referring to yourselves as "us", but I am one you.

I will ignore the trolls from here on in.

.
So it's the players' fault that everyone has to change names? It's more than just people with "Luke" or "Leia" that have had to change.

That level 22 merc saved my life back in balmorra. So he gets to keep his name.

Stop trying to belittle his accomplishment OP.

Ahhh, so you're not trying to get the names back for the people who lost them in this announced merge, you just want to get your names back, eh? (After all, you are only one you, as you put it)

And you wonder why (almost) no one is caring? Huh, weird...

(BTW, I've had to change the names on a lot of my characters during the first 2 sets of merges. After that, I actually came up with original names that didn't require weird spellings or alt-codes.. Just something to think about while you're crying on the forums.)

I've had no issues creating easy to pronounce names, and without resorting to special character sets either. This includes recently creating a pair of new characters on one of the most populated servers and one with historically high population loads. It's not hard.

So, I find your contention to be hyperbole, for the sake of making the same tired old argument and complaint about the game and the developers. Your real issue is you feel entitled to specific names that you personally want. So why not be honest about it and stop creating faux complaints and accusations?

Naming conventions in this game are what they are and they have been the same since launch. Get over it. If names are so important to you in a video game that you simply must have the naming conventions of some other MMOs...then by all means play them instead. Flogging a dead horse is pointless and non-constructive discussion.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.

Names being one per server has been a technical limitation since day one and a core part of the coding within the program and the servers themselves. So you've had a long, long time to familiarize yourself with that limitation. You also had a significant amount of notice regarding the transfer. So your failure to put two and two together and not adjust accordingly is not Bioware's fault. It's yours. Be angry with yourself.
