This already happens on EVE online and works great, only thing is that the f2p/preferred credit cap would need to be raised.

No, I'm not going to just give you money. But if you have credits you don't want, I'd be happy to trade you CC for them. In fact I'd happily give you $1 worth of CC for every 1 million credits you're willing to trade. If we do that 20 times, you have a free month of game time.

Of course we can't do that now, because there is no way to transfer CC between accounts, and selling credits for real life $$$ via out of game transactions is a bannable offense. But if Bioware did what is suggested in the OP, then this could happen (and in other games it does, every day, to the endless delight and satisfaction of all involved).

See how that works?

I really like the idea of the currency exchange, I'd really like to buy credits for CC. On a side note, you're a pretty organized poster, well done

That was a misunderstanding then. The GTN would only let you post CC for sale that you already own. It's not proposed as a means to seed CC originally into the game. In order for the whole scheme to work, it depends on CC being obtainable in the first instance only by a cash payment made directly to Bioware, as it is now. The only thing this would add is a means for CC to change hands between players once put into the game (that, and another sink for CC, which comes in when people buy game time through the CM).

In fact I'd probably pay for two or three subscriptions total, but they would be for accounts that other players would get to enjoy. And in return I would spend more time doing what I like to do during the limited play time that I have.
What, exactly, do you enjoy doing in game that this scheme would allow you to have more time for?

Just send a $20 pre-paid visa card to be used for CC coins or just go buy a pre-purchased CC card from Amazon. See how that works?

I have my own money and my own credits, why do I need you? See how that works?
I'll tell you what, then. Why don't you call me some time when you have no class?

Is this referral mic on? It's free stuff and stuff, in game.

This would not allow any reverse conversion of CC or credits to real life $$$. It would let some people exchange play time for game time, but that's all. It's still a one-way, dead end street for cash. Once Bioware gets the money, they have it, and it's not coming back out of the game ever.

Everything you "own" in SWTOR actually belongs to Bioware, including your characters. Those who doubt that ought to read the ToS; it says so in there quite clearly. But if you establish a way to convert credits and coins into real world currency, or even pseudo-currency in the form of the ability to pay for the game with credits, it's a whole new ball game. If you think 'gold farming' is a problem now, just wait until you create this back channel for turning credits into dollars and euros. Not only that (and we've seen this before) we will attract the attention of people like the IRS, who will see this as a revenue source. In other words, this scheme will generate a whole lot of unintended consequences.

Best to let this sleeping dog lie, I think.
If this was a problem with agencies such as the IRS, then games like EVE online would not do the exact same thing. You would probably do away with gold farmers, since this system would allow for a legitimate way for people to earn in-game money by buying things for their real money.

You won't turn credits to real money, only real money to credits. It does not work both ways.

$1.00 of CC for a million credits? How generous of you! A fool and his money are soon parted. This, right here, is reason enough to not do it. It's predatory and offers no advantages to Bioware. It's letting the foxes guard the henhouse.
