So despite everything, subs are still falling. After their previous post, puts the numbers at a lowly 350-375k.

Free trials and the 'free' to play is clearly not attracting people. Frankly, they should either reduce the fee to £4.99 a month to attract more, or just turn everything free to play and use the cartel market to drive revenue. A world with both wont work.
"Switched to free-to-play" is an interesting way they can put things now that the game has a f2p element. Even if the player never logs in or spends another dime, they're never a former player. They're just "free to play".

I wonder how many of that 25% subscription drop is people who subscribed for the expansion (rapid subscription gain reported last quarter) and then played it through and cancelled - the MMO "locusts".

I believe the person you're quoting was incorrectly paraphrasing. The 25% drop in revenue for subscriptions as compared to the same period last year is the only thing similar to his statement that I could find.

Ah, ok. That makes more sense I guess.

here is another perspective
http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/07/...year-forecast/

Quote:
The company hasn’t released detailed reports about its “Star Wars: The Old Republic” large fantasy game made for PCs for a while. But EA did say it recorded revenue ahead of internal estimates, with an average of approximately 1 million people actively playing the game each month.
you can believe whatever you want. this is what the wall street journal believes.

1 million people playing each month would be extremely impressive if those were subbers....

...but this figure can include people that are masochists and not paying a cent.

EA revealed that sub number is close to 500k in their previous report so the rest is obviously F2P/Preferred players

Interesting....

Check the population trends. They are still declining.

Income increasing doesn't really mean the game itself is growing, people are just spending money on the CM.

Just sayin'

No, I was just saying that ''1 million people playing'' is meaningless when those people range from subbers to freeloaders.

(Needless to say, EA totally does not care about people paying and not playing)

BTW, one of the hidden goals of F2P was to introduce the game to masses of players and get new subs with extended démos.

If this is the game, F2P failed, and massively, since the number of subbers is certainly not increasing.

Looking at Torstatus, the population seems like it's been fairly stable for the whole of this year. There is a slight drop since the summer started, but that's somewhat expected with the combination of vacation and no major content updates since Makeb.
