All this could be solved with some sort of in-game or out of game app to interpret our own logs.
Those exist, problem is, the way SW:TOR does combat logs...suck. They have a long delay in them, and for some reason (whether this is the parsers fault or not, I'm not sure) people all in the same parse, can see different values for dps. MOX and TORparse suffer from this.
The Empire is not evil, and the Republic is not good...it is all a matter of opinion.

They are in the announcement, but I will copy them for you here:

Quote:
approximate 623,747 people have visited the website and combined have spent 106,557 hours browsing (a little over 12 years). Since the ingame client's launch (22 April 2013), the ingame client has serviced over 20,000 unique users with an average of 1,000 being connected at any given time.
Over half a million visits, not too shabby I would say.
Maybe you don't know about this, but a LOT of people use it and love it, and it is a wonderful tool to help improve gameplay.

Here is the link to the announcement:

It's not Biowares call. The guy who owns torparse ... he dedcides.

Now.. how this usually goes... (let's take WoW addons as an example) ... the person maintaining the app (if they so choose and someone else is willing) hands it off to some other person (or entity, such as SourceForge) to maintain moving forward.

From the torparse owner:
Quote:
I will consider only serious offers to transition the project to another development team. I would love to see this project last beyond just my own involvement. If you're experienced and interested, please contact me at [email address removed] If there is no interest in transitioning the project, the website and ingame client will go down as planned on 27 July 2013.
So.. if someone that passes muster with James offers to take it over.. he could be willing to discuss it. But it's up to him and his choice.

Yes, but he won't make it open source, and the way he wrote the final statement, doesn't give much hope for TORparse.

I understand. But the point remains..... It is his choice and his choice alone.

I can't begin to stress just how much value the site has added to my game experience. Losing it will be devastating.

Even if there's nothing official that BW can do to assist, perhaps a Dev or two would be willing to lend their support,i f not publicly, then behind the scenes to keep it afloat. The client app is fantastic and the site very, very well done. The creator and operator, James, has done a magnificent job with it and it would be a shame if his work was lost. Apps like TorParse keep people coming back. They help one track progress in a meaningful way and the ability to compare your results against the community drives people to play and makes the journey more enjoyable.

Operating costs should not keep people from stepping forward to take over. I, and many others, would happily support the site financially if given the opportunity.
As someone who got his start on a fan site himself many years ago, I really appreciate what you are trying to do! Unfortunately, "taking over" a fan site or offering top secret development support/time to a fan site is just not something we do.

Just like many of you, I personally think TORParse is a great tool and I will be sad to see it go. One thing I have learned though from being on a fan site, and from being here at BioWare, is that when one site goes down, usually there are others ready to take their place.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like the site will shut down.

This ^^^

It sucks that he's leaving and closing it down, but it's the nature of MMOs. I actually agree with Andryah on this - Bioware has no business getting involved in it. It's not up to them to pick which sites stay open or close.

However...to play devils advocate...I could argue that having this site running, helps Bioware as much as anyone...but that still doesn't justify Bioware getting involved.
