Whould you rather equip gear that you like, or gear that is rare?

Factors that influence my choice of gear:

Stats/moddability (I will wear awful-looking armor if it's a major stat upgrade.)
Aesthetics

Rarity only factors in incidentally, such that stats are somewhat tied to rarity toward endgame.

My main tank is wearing mixed orange/purple pieces from dungeon sets that dropped while leveling up, with a dye mod, and people ask me what set it is... I equip what I like.

This an odd question, basically the OP is asking if you like rare stuff or stuff you like?

In case you missed that, do you like stuff that you like?

I do like stuff that I like, in fact I'll even go so far as to say I only like stuff that I like.

But rarity is never a consideration, occasionaly price might be, and stats, but never rarity.

But for every enemy fallen, a new foe rises.
For every chain broken, new chains bind me. Only the Force can set me free.

Sorry if my question is a little badly written!

Basically what I tried to ask was this,

Would you ware a piece of gear that was rare, but you didn't particularly like they style/color of, over a piece of gear that you really liked, but was very common and a lot of people wore.

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Let's be honest: A great number of the armor sets are artistically...challenged...compared to others. I've yet to find a set of social armor that doesn't look phoned in. Same goes for most of the reputation armors. The current set of OP's gear looks awful.

Of course, if you spend extra, real cash on the CM you magically open the doors of aesthetically pleasing art assets. I'd much prefer we have just as many chances to get attractive gear through in game activities as have been given those who peruse the CM. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Unless it's a credit card...

Sorry if I came across a bit terse, it just struck me as funny.

But I never care about how rare an item is, it's always about how it looks to me, as opposed to whether anybody else likes it, occassionaly that's a rare item, frequently it's not.

The dye packs help too, get a set of armour that's not quite right, dye it, and hey presto good looking armour.

I'll bite. By and large I don't have to "like" something. It has to be useful. For example, an adaptive speeder I got for nearly free goes just as fast as a super duper multi-million credit one. I don't need the expensive one. Gold Scalene Armor is very pretty, but any adaptive armor set takes the same mods. Gold Scalene isn't any better,

However, rare items can be valuable, including Gold Scalene, so I will go for "rare" over "like" as an investment. When I'm all out of planetary comms and need mods, I can sell the rare item for some credits and visit the GTN to finish off a set of upgrades.

In the end my GPA was only slightly better despite putting in far more effort. Did that devalue my accomplishment? No, I have my diploma and the benefits that accomplishment provides when it comes to better employment options. At no point was going to college entirely about being better than my peers, it was about getting my degree. I could care less what others got or how they got it.
What should be noted about this example tho is that while your work in earning your degree didn't change it's effective value afterwards did. Businesses no longer look at someone with a degree from your college as someone who had to be a certain standard to even get in the school but now view it as yeah anyone can get in that school it's degree doesn't mean anything to us anymore. Thereby your college by lowering their admission standards has a direct affect on you and your future employment chances.

it just so happens that my marauder has gear that I like and is rare. Well.. it wasnt initially rare, but since the gear is no longer obtainable, it is rare now. My marauder is rocking a tionese field tech jacket along with rakata weaponmaster gloves and boots. All dyed with the medium gray/white
