I would rather play one handed on 10fps in SWTOR than with 100fps on Smurfcraft.

And as for graphics, I rather enjoy, that my SWTOR char got more polygons on the head than a WOW char on the whole body.
No one is arguing WoW is better, what is being argued is the terrible performance that most people geting in SWTOR kills their will to play it.

WoW and SWTOR are almost even, except that WoW runs 3x as good.
If you can't tell the difference graphically you should get your eyes checked really. Also I tried making a good looking female character in WoW and it just isn't possible. In SWTOR, not a problem.

You've just played WoW for such a long time that you can't objectively judge the graphics. Any player who hasn't played WoW before and would log into both games now would instantly be able to see the difference. I am not saying that WoW sucks in every aspect..I'm sure it's a great game but graphically I never liked it and couldn't get myself to play it for very long as a consequence. But that aside you really must be blind not to see the difference.

Where are your statistics that "most" people have this problem?

That's right, you don't have any because you are basically projecting your problem onto the rest of the world. I am sure there are some people because there have been some complaints but I've seen nothing to indicate it would be any type of majority.

Clearly WoW should run smoother simply because it's much older. What we see here in this thread is that your view about the graphics of WoW is not shared by anyone. I can play this game just fine and I don't even have a SSD. Sure, I notice some drops in fps at places but it doesn't affect me 99.9% of the time. So I wonder what this "terrible performance" is all about because I don't experience what you do.

"Most" people?
Oh... well.. I know not even one of those "most" people. Guess my guild and my friends all got extreme luck as the performance surely cannot come from our good hardware?

Run WoW on Ultra never dropping below 60FPS.

Barely keep 60 FPS average on fleet with only high settings, random tearing and fps spikes.

Load screens in SWTOR are 4 times as long, even with an SSD AND a 6gb RAM drive.

I can't even imagine trying to play this game on a normal computer.
You really should... because thats where it shines.
On my old computer (which was old when SW:TOR came out) i played with 40fps having everything except bloom and shadows on.
On my "new" computer (which is notthing special) i play with 60 fps having only bloom turned off (and thats purely an aesthetics choice). If i turn on bloom it runs at ~55 fps.

Of course, i could turn everything down to get alot more fps, but you really dont need more than 60 to play without problems.

I agree...textures are one thing but in the link a couple of posts ago, the WoW toon looked like he was made of trianlges underneath the texturing somehow...but it IS a 10 year old game so it should be easier to get a good FPS rate on a much broader spectrum of PC configurations.

Me personally, especially in an MMORPG, I find that after a while the graphics sort of meld into my mind and they are simply, the graphics....I never ever seem to think about them whilst playing, only ever notice when comparing screen shots...people get too caught up on graphics especially in MMORPGs when they dont matter as much as other games....

I never played WOW, so I'm happy with SWTOR as it is now.

Why should I care ?

The only real hassle I have with SWTOR is the engine, which doesn't allow proper jumping like I'm used to from proper jump & run games - and the inability to swim.

Thing is though.. the performance isn't FPS that is truly ruining it (though it can be a part of it)

SWTOR can be run with acceptable FPS on the worst of modern machines, if you are willing to sacrifice visuals for it. The one thing that can't be fixed though is the horrible performance when it comes to loading. Especially some planets are horrible! No modern game should have you waiting more than a minute to load an area. But on many machines, this is the reality of every larger planet like Tatooine, Alderaan, Hoth, Belsavis, Corellia, etc..

Not to mention the fact that these planets are also the worst offenders when it comes to choppiness in gameplay. The size of these planets seem to make it impossible for most machines to use a speeder from one area to the other without horrible lag and choppiness. Heck, just the other day I accidentilly ran off a cliff on Makeb because of choppiness in just walking around.

I know my machine isn't perfect. But I do run other games pretty well on it, even modern games. There is no excuse for this game not improving performance when it comes to loading zones, and then choppiness coming from travelling within these zones.
When I take 3 minutes to get into Makeb, I expect Makeb to be fully pre loaded.. not to get even more choppy gameplay because it still needs to load stuff in.

I still love the game, but the performance of the game surely has a lot to improve. And this has nothing to do with visuals and FPS, no matter how much people want it to be. FPS is a horrible measure, it's only about how smooth the game actually plays and responds to commands, without the game freezing up for a split second just because Im using Force Sprint and turning my camera around.

Still looks a lot more realistic than WoW. When I'm playing TOR I don't feel like I'm looking at a bad comic strip.

I don't have anywhere near a top of the line rig, but it is decent enough and the frame rate for me in general is just fine. Maybe you should knock off the DLing of ****? Either way, I'll take TOR graphics over WoWs anytime. Maybe that's why I played DDO instead of WoW also.
