"Theorycrafting" (min-maxing, to use its less trendy name) is important to a very, very, small, teeny, tiny, itsy-bitsy portion of the gaming community. But like many niche groups, its members have an unrealistic notion of its importance.

If you wanna do it, great. But don''t pretend it's something the community at large gives even the remotest hoot about.

You are partially correct. While theorycrafting is done by a small portion of the community, that information is then passed down to the majority of the community by guides/forum posts/word of mouth.
DPS is science. Healing is art. Tanking is strategy.

It's not about the theorycrafting itself. Like the person above me said, the majority of players will simply go to the information gathered by theorycrafters. A small portion who enjoy doing that work do it, and the rest of us benefit from it.

This is part of MMO community and how it works. Personally for my guild doesn't sit around and theorycraft, but we all enjoy linking up in a raid to see how we're all stacking up, to actually help each other out.
If you don't think any of that is important, we might as well just stop supporting harder difficulty modes and guilds all together, because they're not the majority.

We know that not everyone cares about this stuff, that doesn't mean that it's not important. Same goes for all of the various groups that make up the community. Catering only to the majority creates a very bland and boring community. So, if you don't care about this particular subject, please go discuss something you do care about.

+1 Vote

Look they don't have to integrate this into the game. Just pick it up and continue to run it as 3rd party software. Comparing the time they would have to invest in upkeep vs. the benefit to this game this is a no brainer.

I think you might be a touch off there.

min/max is getting the absolute best gear setup possible via taking out mods and enhancements from other gear.

Theory crafting is looking at what class rotations are best for what class, what is viable. Studying a parse to find out what killed the tank and if it was RNG or not, or working out the averages of a toons abilities and seeing if a 20k heat seeker from a merc was a ounce in a million chance or something that can be replicated. It can also be studying a bosses abilities to work out what his attacks are and what chance it has to hit ect.

Two very different things imho

I am opposed to addons and the dumbing down of the game they bring, but i am not opposed to in-game damage/healing/threat meters. Even if its only for your character and whoever you choose to share it with.

Will TORparse be able to solo parse without the site? Or does solo parsing require a link to the creator's server as well?

It won't be able to parse. You have to log on and be connected...poor set up imho but yep. Unless someone convinces him to let them take it, it'll be gone.
