It's just the chestpiece, the change only removes the LS/DS ties to the dialog choices.

Confirmed.

The Heroic 4 still ONLY gives you a chest piece. The storage container does NOT give you a full set. So, the ties to light/dark are gone. Regardless of your choice in the story, you can get the Star Forager OR Dreadseed chest piece. Then, you can go to the specified locations on various planets and dig up pieces from EITHER set.

Every Seeker Droid digger has not been slapped in the face. Instead of having to grind 2 hours on Tatooine with 2 different characters (one who chose light side and one who chose dark side), you can now grind 4 hours with 1 character and get the pieces from both sets.

In summary: the only change is that you don't HAVE to go scanning with 2 different characters to get the 2 different sets. (and the areas don't deplete)

Because (and I'm going into a more general example because this evidently isn't the case for the seeker armour) the time spent obtaining the item is cheapened.

Say a kid picks up rubbish at lunch time because he'll be rewarded with ice-cream. It's not the funnest task, but he has the reward in mind so the time spent picking up rubbish isn't necessarily boring. However, when he goes to collect his reward, he finds that all of the kids are getting ice-cream, even if they didn't collect rubbish. He now realises that he could have been doing something more fun and received the reward anyway, thus the time he did spend collecting rubbish is made worthless. His enjoyment is retroactively taken away, going from 'picking up this rubbish is so going to be worth the ice-cream!' to 'picking up all that rubbish was an utter waste of time, I shouldn't have bothered'.

When we're doing a chore with a reward in mind, that chore can become fun. When that reward is given to those who did not do the chore, we feel as if we have been robbed of the time that we spent doing the chore; we retroactively associate doing said chore with negative emotions, whereas before we may have retroactively associated doing the chore with positive emotions.

That is how every MMO ever created works though. It's always easier to get something later on.

That is why people should do what is fun for them and avoid "collecting rubbish to get ice cream".

You're playing a game. If you equate it to doing a chore for a little reward at the end, you are committing the very worst sort of deception upon yourself. Every minute you spend in the game should be focused on having fun, not doing chores.

People have different reasons for playing the game, and different things that they find fun. Some find it fun to spend extra unnecessary time to get a rare reward. This is nothing new. These types of tasks have been around for a long long time. And the fun isn't in the grind, it's in walking around with something rare, something you spent some extra effort to achieve that other people didn't.

It may not be something that's fun for you, but it's fun for other people. People enjoy different things and *gasp* some enjoy having something rare. Not sure why people think that's a bad thing, but chastising people for wanting something like this in game is really not cool.

At any rate, this "controversy" has been cleared up.
aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?

If the fun is in wearing the item, then why do they care that there's suddenly an easier way to get it? That will make the dolly dress-up easier on their next character, won't it?

I'm not chastising anyone. I'm pointing out the inconsistency and folly in the complaint.

They either had fun playing the game or they didn't. If they didn't, they made a poor choice but that's not EA's fault. if they did have fun then why are they complaining about the change? It's not like EA can retroactively go back and take away the fun they had, any more than anyone can go back into my past and take away the fun I had the lst time I went skiing or driving around in my convertible with my wife.

You're missing a key thing here. The fun isn't just in "playing dolly dress up." It's in having something rare. And the fun just isn't when you got the piece, it continues as long as what you have is rare. That means they're still enjoying it, still having fun...until it's not rare anymore.

Welcome to MMOs. It's rare that a rare item stays rare.

If you want to be the rare character in the rare gear, you either have to find something everyone else thinks is hideous or spend all your time chasing the next rare item.

Yes it is a rare item that stays that way. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing to have in game.

And keep in mind that there's a distinction between vanity items like this, like rep grinds for mounts or pets or whatever, and your typical gear ladder that you get with flashpoints and ops. People who expect their top level raid gear to always be unique are going to be continually disappointed, but there's no real reason why a questline like the seeker droid one can't continue as is, leading to the sets continuing to be somewhat rare (less rare as time goes on and more people get it of course).

No reason other than "Just because BWEA wants to do it." You can't fight City Hall.
