Seeker Droid is absolute WASTE OF TIME

OK, slight bump up from a little bit ago, but not too long ago.

I have now attempted to do this seeker droid seed quest twice. In those 2 attempts I have pretty much wasted 90 minutes looking for the seeds.

I am obviously doing something wrong, can someone please explain what exactly (in more than follow the scan results) I am supposed to do. I want to do this quest, but it is getting very frustrating for me.

  1. Be Certain You Are In The Correct Zone (They're hard to miss with the champions wandering around)
  2. Try to NOT stand in water: That can obscure the triangulation graphic.
  3. Start by dropping a Seeker Droid on a 'root-like' structure. If you dig up the seed, move on to the next planet.
  4. If you don't find the seed, look at the triangulation graphic around you after the seeker returns:
  • RED = You are way off, so move at least 30 meters before using the Seeker again.
  • PARTIALLY GREEN = Turn in the direction of the 'Green', move forward 10-20m, and drop another seeker droid.
  • Lather, Rinse, Repeat as needed. Try to remember the last couple of results when adjusting your position (e.g. if your second scans points you back the way you came, drop the next one between your previous two dig sites)

Seriously, I'm not finished with the missions yet, but the planets I've done so far have gone pretty quick (Travel time to and from the sites almost certainly exceeds actual dig time by a good margin).

Sorry but this is a case of user error. I found the dreadseeds very easy. Just drop the probe in the area marked on map. When you get a green circle look at the arrow on the circle on you afterwards and move in that direction a few feet. Repeat until you pull the seed its quite quick. Each one took no more than 5 mins not including travel time.

Apart from the helpful hints you already got from the previous posters, here is the hint that helped me:

Only search the seeds in water ponds which contain roots in them. For me, in 100% of the cases, the seeds have been in such a pond. That ruled out quite some space and made my search finally successful.

And then you also need some luck. On Balmorra, I found the seed with my first try. I was soo happy. Good luck!
Bioware offers a friend referal system which gives referred players a couple of goodies (incl. 7 free days of sub and a neat free 10 x inventory slot for every character) and referring players some little shinies and cartel coins.
I would be happy if you choose my referral link to grab your free goodies.

You can also buy triangulation enhancers that will make the green indicator a bit more narrow and thus precise. Green enhances a little bit, blue a lot. Blue also gets more precise the closer you are to the object, so once it's very narrow indicator it means you're standing right next to it.

They're called

GSI TRiangulation Enhancer Mark I (green)
and
GSI TRiangulation Enhancer Mark II (blue)

How to obtain:
  • You can buy the green ones from the GSI vendor on Nar Shaddaa (and a cybertech schematic for the blue one).
  • You also receive them as mission rewards on seeker droid missions.
  • They are listed on the GTN.

With these, especially the blue ones, you shouldn't spend more than 10 minutes at each (Dread Seed Quest) site. They also help later on when you search for the rest of the armor pieces.

I fully understand that this is user error, that is why I stated, I am obviously doing something wrong.

I do thank everyone for the information that has been provided, hopefully the next time I head out to look for this I have better luck.

I managed to get most of them on my own without too much difficulty, that said, like the HK part search it does help to have multiple people split up to look. If you are group and one person finds it then the others get it too.

I've never been a big fan of PVE content, but really enjoyed the macrobinocular and seeker droids quest lines. The heroics are awesome.

I can't stand doing dailies, but for whatever reason I find fishing with the seeker droid relaxing. Its what I generally do between PVP and raids to make extra cash. I've got all the seeker droid achievements, multiple sets of both types of gear, and all three vehicles. That is how I see fishing, as an alternative to dailies; something to fill the gap and make some extra credits. Note that I am not talking about the actual seeker droid dailies, but just fishing. You find all kinds of stuff to vendor and sell on the GTN.

Regarding the actual dailies though, if you are doing them for rep do them in a group. Each group member can be on a different part of the planet and all group members get credit for whatever each individual member completes. So group up and split up.

My first run through the seeker droid quest was unbuffed and I still enjoyed it greatly. It didn't feel too challenging, but I would definitely recommend using at least green buffs for finding the dread seeds. They are cheap. If you complete the quest line and continue fishing you will want to start using the blue buffs. You will be completely wasting your time fishing unbuffed because I guaranty most of your competition at each site will be buffed. If you are going to use the blue you need to craft them yourself or supply the mats to a guildie that can. The blues are too expensive to buy off the GTN.

Another thing I enjoy about fishing is I often get to PVP while doing it. Most of the time (but not always) I leave flagged folk alone, but am hoping they will attack me, generally when they do attack I will still have 95% health left after they are dead. So here are some tips regarding PVP. Excluding Outlaw's Den, you can get to every dig site without being flagged regardless of being Imperial or Republic. Being flagged is an invitation to PVP. If you don't want to PVP, don't get flagged. If you decide to fish in Outlaw's Den, you need to go in with the mindset that you will likely have to PVP, even though most times you won't. Unless you know you rock at PVP, do not attack anyone. Often there are a handful of PVE'ers in there who won't attack you as long as you mind your own business. Don't run or drive close to them though. Maintain some space. Oh, and don't even bother going into Outlaw's Den before you are 55 and have some PVP gear unless you are willing to risk the chance of not only being attacked but easily killed if not killed in one or two GCDs.

I call it fishing, which is really the attitude you need with it. Maybe you catch something nice, maybe you don't. In any case you will catch enough stuff to make some credits.

Use Dulfy as a guide. Use at least green buffs; blue are much better. Don't get flagged or attack others unless you know you rock at PVP.

The "indicator" is a bit wonky and why is the potential loot moving? You can stand in one spot and have it indicate that it's very close in the west direction. You use the droid just to your west AND FIND NOTHING. The indicator goes off again and you havent moved. This time it's indicating that there's something on your east O_o It just seems completely random. Put some range on the indicator thingy atleast.
