Solution to the constant calls for Content...

Allow us to create our own content!

How?

SANDBOX Features!

Examples:

Storyteller NPCs = Allow us to buy items we can place in the open world, like static vehicles, NPCs to fight, Buildings, special effects... speeder "check points" so we can build temporary race tracts... dueling arena's or pits with dangerous environmental items inside so we can host our own gladiatorial combat... the possibilities here, are endless.

Player Housing, Player Cities, and Player Capital Ships = the possibilities with this are endless. Allow us to build our own houses / cities within instanced version of the planets. Example... I go to Coruscant, I travel to a "instance taxi" and from there I jump into my house, city, etc. Instanced housing could be great for placing all sorts of things, decorations, hosting guild events, and so on.

Player Vendors: Allow players to place, in their own house, city, space station, a Player Vendor, where they this could act like a Guild Bank/GTN terminal all in one.

Interactive Environments: I know I would love to get a bunch of Jedi, go into our own instance of the Jedi Council Chambers on Tython, and RP a Council Meeting... especially if we can SIT IN CHAIRS!

Allowing the players to create content, generate their own place in the galaxy that feels like it is "theirs" will go a long way to keeping many players here, playing, and coming back for more.

Plus... you can put most of this stuff on the Cartel Market and make a fortune from it.

Considering the direction of this game, I dont see this ever happening. I really like the idea though. Instanced cities would work well on planets like Tattooine, Alderaan, and the capital worlds.
Roswin - 50 Jedi Sentinel | Vaelin - 50 Sith Juggernaut | Kordis - 50 Sith Marauder | Vaelis - 50 Sith Assassin | Tylus - 50 Sniper
| Vint - 43 Mercenary | Kiden - 35 Vangaurd | Skavic - 22 Jedi Sage |

It took over a freaking year to get a cat head on a human body...do you honestly think there's anything on your list that they could add in a reasonable amount of time? I don't. I don't disagree with your list, but I think it's far too ambitious for this lot.

You mention the exact problem.
This game is NOT a sandbox game. It is a Story Driven Roller coaster.

To turn this game into a sandbox it would require significant redesign of everything.

If they were to even implement a system like this. I almost guarantee it would be a separate isolated world that your main story never takes you.

Um... thanks but no thanks.

The last thing I need in an MMO is forum members creating sandbox content for me. They do that now in the forum and it's a mess. It's much less a mess then a year ago... but a big mess none the less.

Besides... 99% of us are not qualified to play with "MMO matches" unsupervised.

As for sandbox... we got cats... I'm sure they came with sandboxes, though I'm still looking for them on my 3 Cathar characters.

Maybe ask Santa for an etch-a-sketch. Old school but still reliable sandbox play IMO.

The game isn't coded that way, and I don't see EA/Bioware making the changes needed to allow it. At least, not quickly enough to help them. EQ Next has some of these features, though details are minimal at this point. We know they will allow player-generated market items and with Storybricks the NPCs will be much more individual. I can see content modules being viable as well, but those would have MUCH more stringent review processes before they're added.

SWTOR is an old-school MMO, it's in the base of the game.

The planetary nature of the game supports it in principle.

But it would have to be like a life sentence prison colony planet (or the good old fashioned roach motel) You check-in, but you don't check out. Once a character goes there.. they are there for life, and have no communications with the rest of the galaxy. This inoculates the non-sandbox side of the game from the chaos and destruction sandboxers try to inflict to order and rules. And the sanboxers get their sandbox.

But of course we all know that sandboxers don't want that.. they want the freedom to prosecute their will across the player base and the galaxy.

Sandbox games can be great.
If they are built from the ground up as sandbox games.

Slapping sandbox features on a storydriven themepark MMO will not make it great. It will most likely ruin it.

I agree. However, there are certain limitation it WOULD have to abide to.

1) Designated sandbox areas, ideally instances "owned" by players and maybe guilds (AND, not OR), so they can control access and permissions to "their" area as they please, but also so players CAN'T adjust existing game environments.

2) No uploading of textures, models, etcetera. Only usage of existing game assets (though Bioware could create some for this very purpose, or have some built-in designer, and charge CC for them, one way or another)

3) Anything created within the sandbox areas stays within the sandbox areas. No, we don't want your custom chair on the GTN, even less see it plopped down on the fleet or in the middle of the Tatooine desert! Not even custom designed gear or weapons. They all have to stay within the sandbox.

4) No experience gain within sandboxed areas.

5) No WZ points gained within sandboxed areas.

6) No loot for killing mobs within sandboxed areas.

Simply put, you can't leave a sandboxed area with more <whatever> on your character than how you entered, only less..
You can only bring something from Sandbox 1 to Sandbox 2 with the permission of the owners of both sandboxes. (to prevent introducing griefing tools from one sandbox to another).

I have made suggestions in this regard in the past. I can repost a few here.

I'm not sure that pure sandbox is a good fit, but "sandboxy" might work. Anything that we can participate in that does not comprise "kill, loot repeat" i call "sandboxy" since we are creating our own game content and activity.

Mission generation...text based bonus and posting missions

General QoL suggestions

Suggestion to make every profession viable....

Just a few of my suggestions.
