Some other things I thought of.

1. Any spec of Vanguard dps can off-taunt. None of them can heal, none of them have a mez, and none of them have a knockback. No Vanguard spec is remotely competitive outside of 10m.

2. Any spec of Commando can off-heal and do a battle-rez. All specs have a 60-second in-combat mez and a knockback. None have any taunt ability. Commando's can safely sit at range.

For example, on Toth/Zorn, a Commando dps can sit at 29.9m and go to town without worry about getting Fearful and having to swap targets. This opens up a simple strategy of swapping tanks and leaving the bosses in place. Not possible with a Vanguard dps.

On the flipside, a Vanguard dps can off-taunt Firebrand's incinerate armor, reducing pressure on the healers and eliminating the need for a tank swap. Not possible for a Commando dps.

From a logical standpoint, the Commando class is heals/dps, but a Vanguard is tank/dps. This is what makes them different.

You purposefully changed your term to "spec" to make this point, but you know damn well by now that an AC = Class. Let me try and help you, as I get the impression you have only 1 character at level 45

Vanguard = Warrior
Commando = Paladin

Sentinel = Mage
Guardian = Warrior

Sage = Priest
Shadow = Rogue

Gunslinger=Mage
Scoundrel=Priest

If i was to change my sentinel to a tank, I could not afford to gear it to the same level it is at now, and I would be hounding the guild tanks to explain what all the funny buttons are for.

I Play a Sent, Merc, Shadow, Jugg, Sniper, and Commando
My wife has a Commando, Marauder, Scoundrel, and Sage

I can tell you from sitting at her screen to fill a raid slot, that if I was able to Push a button and turn my Shadow tank into a healer.... well... I wouldn't be doing my guild any favors.

Really, you have to play the class... to be able to play the class.

They have said over and over AC switching will not take place.

What they ARE entertaining is DUAL SPEC:

My Sentinel - Switch from Focus PVP build to Watchman OPS build
My Shadow - Switch from Tank build to DPS build
My Commando - Switch from DPS build to Healer Build

You are just confused about basic game mechanics. If you have played more than one char to 50 or 55, I apologize.
I would then ask you to really think about what you would have to do to re-gear that Vanguard to healer.
Im not saying switch from warrior to mage or anything like that. This games different, its not a stretch for a vanguard to turn into a commando.
In order to appreciate the Light, you must spend time in the Darkness.

He just explained to you exactly why it is a stretch and you just ignored it, not to mention everything everyone else has said, myself included, proving you wrong.
Unsubscribed due to no new Operations.
I am happy that there will be a renewed focus on story, I love story, its why I picked this MMO. But I picked an MMO, not an episodic single player RPG that I have to pay a subscription to receive the episodes.

lol 10 more pages added on only for both sides go to the silly extreme of "im right, youre wrong."

truly the pinnacle of a "debate"

You are asking to change classes, nothing less. It makes no difference if you are asking to change from a vanguard to a guardian or from a vanguard to a commando. Both are class changes.

I think that is the point everyone is trying to make to you; this is also why I asked how many characters you have leveled.

As most of us active on this thread have done, I have multiple high level characters of various ACs

We are trying to tell you that the ac changes, such as a Vangaurd to Commando, are *NOT* minor.

As quoted in the earlier dev post, AC are regarded as separate classes. This is because of the point we are arguing. The switch from VANGUARD to COMMANDO is as much a fundamental change as WARRIOR to PRIEST

I don't disagree with you.

But I feel compelled to point out that this can also be said for respeccing a different tree for the same AC.

I leveled as a Sage dps (1/12/28 Hybrid). When I hit 50 I ended up joining a guild and they asked me to respec to heals. I read up on the forums, got advice, and went to Ilum to do dailies. I was so bad I couldn't keep Qyzen alive during trash pulls. It took a while before I was good enough to do dailies, longer yet to be able to heal flashpoints, and longer yet to heal operations.

Had AC swaps been available, and had my guild asked me to switch to a Shadow Tank (from a Sage dps) I would have run into the exact same problem and learning curve.

I don't think AC swaps are needed in this game, and I've expressed my reasons why. But "You won't know how to play your class" is not a valid reason, IMO, as the same problem already exists when you swap your skill tree around the first time.

I'd say most of the people posting on this thread have offered better contributions than your brilliant gem here. As a matter of fact, I have to wonder if you're just trolling as I've seen several well-though-out arguments.
