A few Build examples. Thoughts?

The hybrid builds I posted before, apparently were not very viable to begin with. So I thought I'd create a new thread and post some of the build ideas I had found, and some that I edited from the ones I found and ask for the opinion from those more experienced than I with this class.

I should also mention that my aim is to create a build that is viable for both PvP AND PvP. However I do not know how I want to approach this. Nor have I yet decided on whether I want to roll as a tank, or as DPS. So here are some ideas I have in mind;

Hybrid build: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rcMsbbcZfbsRkGMR.3g

My last try and trying to get into a hybrid build. It is different from the ones posted in my other thread.

Madness DPS Builds:

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200bc0MZcZfMfRrrkGroz.3 -(may switch shapeless spirit with lambaste)

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200McMZcZfMfRrrkGrzz.3 --(basically the same as the one above it, just instead i switched some points around in the darkness tree and switched shapeless spirit with lambaste)

http://assassinbuilds.com/images/madnessbuild1.jpg

Deception DPS Builds:

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200bcZfrcRkGbRrbkzZcM.3

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200bZfbfRkGMRbddzZf0c.3

Tank build:

http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rIroddfdGbRZcZbM.3

Thoughts? How is the hybrid in terms of PVP and PVE? How is the tank build? Out of all of the DPS builds, which is the most viable for pvp and pve?

If anyone has any build suggestions then by all means please post them.

You're really not making any sense now, and you certainly don't have any tank builds linked there

I had them out of order, they are fixed now. Plus I got mixed up between darkness and deception in terms of tanking. Again not used to Assassin.

And yes I am making perfect sense. There are multiple builds listed around, some for pvp, others for pve, i want to try and make a build that can be suitable for both. I an also unsure whether I want to go for being a tank, or for DPS. So I listed all of those builds above to see which 2 out of them all would be the most viable. I fail to see how you are having a hard time understanding this.

The thing with talent builds is that you have to ask the big question of why, i.e. why a point in this and not a point in that? You want to achieve a good balance between what you get and what you give up. Further, you need to appreciate that not all classes allow you that flexibility to play however you want and still be as effective.

So it comes down to your understanding of the class, your own playing style and what fights you are preparing for.

For example, we all know that assassin madness dps in pve more or less plays like this:

Madness – keeping up dots (discharge, creeping terror, crushing darkness), maintaining constant attacks (thrash, assassinate), managing force (crushing darkness on raze proc)

So let’s consider your first madness build (http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200bc0MZcZfMfRrrkGroz.3) and see if it supports the above pve playing style of madness. I would make the following comments:

1. You would notice that shock is not usually used in a standard madness rotation, because it just costs too much force for the damage it does. Thus the 3 points in Chain Shock becomes very situational.

2. Shapeless Spirit reduces the damage you take while stunned – something that rarely happens in raids. Thus the 1 point you spent on it is mostly wasted.

3. Haunted Dreams gives you a faster Whirlwind, which is basically a short cc with a channel time. As it is not an instant cast, you would never use it as a last-resort interrupt. Not to mention that its duration is too short to be of any real use. That’s another 2 points wasted here.

4. You have given up Lambaste, which is a decent on-demand aoe attacks that you can spam twice before resorting to filler.

5. You have given up Dark Embrace, which allows you to open from stealth and have a slightly longer window of attacking due to increased force regen.

6. You have given up Avoidance, which improves the cooldown of your gap closer, your interrupt and your cc breaker.

So basically, at first glance, you are making some rather poor trades. Therefore, the build is not ideal. I would recommend this approach for all your future analysis. Then you should try to see if you can derive some better builds from it. At the end of the day, your build needs to support what you want to do for your role. So you need to understand what it is that you are expected to do in flashpoints, raids and warzones, and how to best to achieve it with the tools you have.

Tl, dr: There is no Swiss army knife build. Develop your own build through analysis, research and rigorous practice.

I see. Thank you, I think I am beginning to understand. I am used to playing as a Sith Marauder with Annihilation spec. Not used to this.

I like to get into the thick of it, planting dots that heal me over time while doing massive damage. I don't think I can get that as a dps Assassin. Plus I kind of want to try aomething a bit different while still being on the front line. So I may go and try the darkness tank build here: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rIroddfdGbRZcZbM.3

There can never be enough good tanks. =)

And when it comes to assassin/shadow tanking, Kitru is basically the resident expert (god?) around here, so you should try to check Kitru's posts if you can re specs, gearing and tactics.

Good luck!~

As long as you had deception builds listed under "tank" spec you were not making sense. Now with corrections much better.

Yes, that is very good for tanking most fights.

There are few variations that can be better on certain specific situations. I could go into more detail about those later.

Sorry for the late reply, my sub ran out so I was unable to post on the forums.
