Well, it did seem to be Mr. Gonzalez's pet-project, as it was unstuck around the time he left (IIRC).

I imagine that a guy in the company called Nate (N4t3) has just left for another job. Hence the turncoat armor and final day of service thing.
Huh. Neat. Didn't look at it closely enough to see that. I might actually pick it up now, though most likely I'll wait 'til I come up with a character concept that would fit it and it starts showing up on the GTN.

To say it quickly.. about 20% of a shop's products make about 80% of the shop's income, while the 80% other items make only 20% of the shop's income. Why even have those 80% other items you might say? Well because if you don't have a complete enough set of items to buy, people won't come to your shop to get those 20% items, but chose to go to a shop that does sell those few items they do have that you do not.

It is a simple marketing principle about making sure your stock of items is broad enough to make sure people spend money in your shop, and not others.

Having items like this, or Huttsbane, are all about that same principle. You release these items for a very small subset of your customer base, in this case probably Roleplayers looking for a 'civilian' outfit, to make sure your stock is complete enough. Once people feel they can get everything they want from you, they will stay more loyal to your shop.

So.. from just the Pareto principle, you can say that for every Valiant Jedi set, or for every other good looking set everyone will love, you need to have 4 less universally enjoyed sets to ensure your stock is broad enough to appeal to your entire market.

Understand this principle, and you understand why Bioware 'wastes' slots of 'armor development' on these things. and yes, they are just skins already available in game made adaptive. A simple, quickly made item is perfect to be in the 80% group.. while the star sets, the unique ones, need to be in the 20% group. Cost vs Reward.. they never expected you all to buy this item.
No offense, but that is a ridiculous analysis. Pareto's principle applies primarily to a brick & mortar environments and extends to online environments where the consumer has to proactively enter your store (be it physical location or a web site).

People play SW:TOR for the game first and the CM is more like the impulse purchasing item you see at a retail stores check out line.

Not to mention the armor set are marquee items that are intended to be advertised and entice you into the CM. Huttsbane & Turncoat were both a horrible waste from that perspective alone (i.e. wasted opportunity cost) even if they took minimal resources to develop.

On another note, when I saw the name Turncoat Armor Set, I was hoping it was going to be Malgus' armor which would have implied Satele Shan's armor would soon follow.

this :-)
I do not understand all this crying about some armour that they can buy.
If you do not like it well..hmm lets see..hmm do not buy it?
If it was a pve drop item that is something completly different..but a cartel item.

The OP evidently loves this armor and by making this thread, he wants to make sure BW puts it on a dicount next month just like they did with Huttsbane now.

Of all the cool armors that NPC characters in this game were you actually tok the time
putting in this armor that looks like a lvl 3 outfit from a starter planet...................

How about the Alderaan Trooper outfits or Alderaan sentinel guard outfits
what ever looks 100 times better

BTW something tells me the reason the Huttbane outfit is on 50% sale is because no one bought it.
You guys really need mayor help on outfits and design in this game, we told you 1000 times over and over.
I started to buy it cause I have 906 CC but decided not too. Just doesn't look that good in my opinion. Would of been better for them to just make it "rp" armor with no stats and charged 50cc for it

And in all honestly I've never, not once, seen anyone wearing the Huttsbane armor...well except the Huttsbane himself lol

If BW isn't made aware of dissatisfaction, both vocally, and by voting with our virtual/IRL $ wallets by not spending on this, they'll likely take it as an endorsement of things like this. While it may not make sense, a lot of people in business take silence as an indication that they're doing a great job, even if there is a large amount of disgruntled customers. People, myself included, are vocal about what we dislike to encourage them to sell us things we WOULD like. It's not baseless criticism for criticism's sake. We want them to give us excuses to spend real world money, or our monthly cartel coin stipends on the things they produce. They have an entire thread to draw suggestions from, and they just haven't really shown that they are listening.

It's less that people are forced to buy it, but rather, lack of understanding of why they haven't released some of the more sought after outfits.

I know I'm at a loss as to why they haven't released the Aspiring Jedi Knight (female version specifically) Vest to the CM yet. I'd have purchased that top multiple times over by now if it was released to the CM, and all I want is the top (gloves would be nice to, but it's the chest piece I really want).

And I know I'm not the only one who wants that chest piece. Turncoat, really, who wanted that?
"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more...than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so *********** what." - Stephen Fry

as much as Malgus' and Satele's armor would be awesome, and a total CM cash-cow, not to mention a complete hit with their players, BW has made it perfectly clear since day 1 that they have a strict "player characters may not look cool" policy.

That dude Alec Fortescue has been compiling a now-obnoxiously long list of armors that NPCs are wearing and stuff BW themselves have advertised as player-wearable (well, suggesting it's available). His list is intersting in that 100% of it is much comelier than Huttsbane and Turncoat put together.

Why then, do they keep releasing stuck-on tubes, antenae, TV dishes, leg-sized can-openers, and spikes when they could release Malgus, Satele, or the cool-looking outfits of the nameless untargettable guards meandering around the fleet?

I wish I knew. Especially since they've made multiple comments in the past about how "we hear you", "more cleaner lines", and "we promise more inconic stuff is coming".

If the Huttsbane and Turncoat armor is them "getting it", then really, they still don't get it.

PS i was just thinking about the Containment armor and literallly laughed out loud about the wierd gravity-defying tank suspended a foot above the rest of the "backpack" and the head. LOL that they think we want that more than Malgus or Satele.
