But I am not about to pay some membership fee just to have access to guild chat and to assist the GM with "expenses".
Well then you should not be in a guild. just play it solo then. in my eyes a guild is much more then the gm and the officers.everyone has to put in theire piece.
The first thing people ask.does the guild has a guildbank, how many taps, can i take thing. but never about giving something back. (that is why we now have a much stricter recuting )
nothings as good as an cold cold beer...and swtor to play drunk

That's good advice. Being a free-lance sniper (or Merc, haven't decided) sounds like it would suit me fine. I don't mind contributing to the guild and helping others. I just dislike the idea of sticking their hand in my pocket to do so. In WoW, the cash flow perk adds 10% over and above the quest reward, and Dungeon/Raid/Scenarios completed in a Guild group add money to the GBank as well. If SW:TOR wants to encourage guilds, they could stand to take a page from WoW guilds. It's about the ONLY thing Blizz ever did right.

Go for the merc. in my eyes alot better then sniper ;-) but that is off topic.
I agree that it is a good thing that wow have done. but at the other hand thiere are people who do not do ops or fps so they would not distrubute something.
The money can be used for a lot of things. Guildrepair, buying other maths to craft stuff for guildies for free! All crafting raid drops goes already in the gb and that is also used for the non raiding people.
Do you understand where i am heading for?

I get what you are saying, and absolutely applaud your efforts, but in a system such as this, it would seem that solo would be more my speed. Also, thanks for the tip. I was thinking I might just bite the bullet and go Powertech. Then I have a healer behind me. As for the guild member tax, if it ever comes from the player, and not the system, I will likely never have a guild name over my head.

The good thing about coming into a fantasy world is escaping real life, now you want to bring in taxes!!!!!
Reading the Forum, just shows how stupid some people are. Which probably includes me for getting involved

It sounds like a "win-win" for everyone on paper, but in practice it reduces guilds to cash funnels. Guilds wind up hawking their perks to get more recruits to line the guildmaster's pockets. And members get kicked if they're not "producing" enough rent to pay for their slots. It turns the whole guild dynamic into a landlord-tenant transaction rather than a social community of like minded players.

Making perks that benefit all members equally, like the scaling XP bonus, just encourages people to join up more. But this membership rental version of the guild tax is a toxic mechanic that winds up making all guilds all about the money.

With a personal tax system, it is less like a guild and more like a country club. Only difference is, instead of the guild being financed by the game, it is financed by the players. I get what folks are saying, and ultimately it is still about personal opinion and preference. I prefer not to be charged just because I felt like joining a guild. I would stay guildless if a tax is ever implemented.

Read my lips: No new taxes!
Ooh! In Elder Scrolls Online, I get magic spells and colossal PvP! That sounds cool, but one question, where do I get a lightsaber?

I still can't believe that is 2.2 they are giving us MORE Guild EXP when we don't have something as basic as a tax.

These updates have done nothing for Elder game players except help out their alts....
Troops will be routed. Droids will be dismantled.
Creatures will be slain. Hutts will be squashed.
Planets will Burn. The time has come for the Infernal Harvest.
Infernal Harvest Jung Ma Empire Guild.
