All we ask for is to create new animations for SOME Force attacks that would utilize the saber (channel the lightning through it, for example, channeling the Force through saber jammed in the ground when we use Forcequake, etc). Or just give the saber some new animation than just idly holding it in hand.
So again, this is a complaint about animations, or lack of same.

Actually I play it because I wanted to heal, not because it's ranged.

Partly. But considering Bioware has made tweaks to skills' sound effects and animations before, they've proven they think the "feel" of skills matters. On my Merc healer I can at least plink friendlies (and enemies, if everyone's topped off) with Rapid Shots as filler, from my optimal range. I can use Rocket Punch if stuff gets in my face, and it scales appropriately with my stats.

Sorc/Sage have no ranged filler nor do their limited melee skills scale properly. This seems unreasonable. Your snark seems equally unreasonable.

So you do want better melee skills? And you don't like the animations? The animations part is just aesthetics. But as I said before, if you're lobbying for better melee skills for Sorcerers, are you gonna lobby equally hard for better ranged attacks for Juggernauts?

You're one of the ones lobbying for a change. The onus is on you to make your case. So far, all I see is "I just don't like it," which is fine as far as opinion goes, but not terribly compelling in terms of justifying any effort to make the change.

No, I'm not going to lobby for better ranged attacks for Juggs. I'm going to lobby that the melee skills the sorc DOES get work like the mercenary skills (ranged healing class... with a ranged filler attack ...) which actually scale. I think that's pretty compelling, don't you?

But I'd totally settle for not awkwardly palming a lightsaber while I shoot lightning. Aesthetics are important, to both players and, it seems, Bioware.

Yes, but aesthetics matter to many people. Just idly holding the saber in your hand seems dumb and "stat-sticky".

Again, I think no one feels the need to lobby for melee sages/sorcerers, as we were fully aware that it is a ranged class when we chose it, we just want our sabers to be something else than static stat sticks like mage staffs. I posted an example of mage staffs from Dragon Age 2, which have cool animations on normal attack or on casting certain spells, so why is it so much to ask for something like that for lightsabers?

For those who wish to forgo the status quo, there seem to be few real solutions:

1) remove the light saber and willingly take a drop to stats.
2) add more skills which utilize the light saber
3) increase damage output (scaleable) to existing light saber skills

Which would you chose?
Which do you believe you might get?

there is no "4) remove the light saber and DO NOT take a drop to stats."
Hold up ! If we save Han now, there won't be anything for us to do at the beginning
of ROTJ !

Given my druthers, I'd have more melee skills (or skills that incorporate a cool lightsaber animation at least). I'd expect the most likely change would be scaling the existing melee skills, like they do for some other classes.

Sorcs are too focused on force abilities and not focused enough on saber abilities. They already can't dual wield, and I'm pretty certain most folks would think they don't want to become a Warrior (then you could just be a warrior) but a few more short range saber abilities instead of the silly myriad of force lightning abilities might be nice.

Like I said. Sorc saber is the Warlock's wand. Next to useless. So much so it was removed from WoW. It is just a stat stick essentially, and it would be nice, considering we are Sith to actually use it a bit more (or more accurately have a reason to) than we do.

Even ranged classes get plenty of close quarters abilities. Sorcs get little if any. I think it could use a change.

Yes there is. Just "remove" the animation of wielding it. Or give us a piece of non-wielded gear for that slot that makes some sense, like a second focus, or some sort of weird cube or trinket or something. Then remove the useless basic melee attack and give us a proper ranged filler in its place.
