State of the Game #3 Promise Not Delivered

EDIT: First thing's first: This is NOT a thread about paying for Cathar. There are 100 threads for that - go find one of those if you want to post about it. There is a very clear point to this post and it is NOT about paying for customization.

From State of the Game Update #3:

So far, this is what we've seen from 2.1:

Cathar (cartel coins required)
Appearance Designer Kiosk (cartel coins required)
Armor Dyes (cartel coins required for more than half the colors)

So, before I (un)officially change the name from 2.1: Customization to 2.1: Cartel Coins Required, I'd like to ask for a developer or community team member to get a word on when 'after Rise of the Hutt Cartel' officially starts. I thought it was April 10th.

Instead of quality of life, we've got customization. Before anyone sputters otherwise, I'll state without hesitance that this is not the same thing. Quality of life is a large bubble that includes making the game easier to play, making the game run smoothly, removing bugs from the game, and making as many areas of the game as possible more user friendly. Generally, everything the game has needed since launch. Customization, on the other hand, isn't that. Changing race, hair style, or armor color does none of the above-listed things - it does not make the quality of play better in any way. In fact, judging by the track record going back to... forever, the update will likely not work in a dozen ways from the get-go and cause many complaints with their own merit.

Now, this post is not to argue that the non-content in 2.1 isn't desired. It is, and greatly, by many. And it's appreciated, too. However, that is NOT the point of this post.

I have my wants that top my list. Role Playing players have theirs - chat bubbles, sleeping in their own bed, saving chat logs, and a couple other things that are actually making their way into this update. PvP junkies have theirs - bolster being fixed, mainly, and I do empathize with their plight as it looks as if there's no end in sight for them. My wants? Since the beginning, it's simply been about fixing the game in all the ways it's broke. Seeing Jeff specifically mention that - calling out performance improvements and bugs BY NAME, even - made me a very happy person.

But now? I see that it was all smoke. The first major update after Rise of the Hutt Cartel is aimed solely at separating players from more of their money for customization items. There is not a single part of 2.1 (so far, admittedly, but I'd only be too happy to eat my hat if it proves otherwise) that has to do with what Jeff mentioned. He said that the major focus after 2.0 would be quality of life immediately after mentioning bugs and performance issues.

Well, someone with non-light yellow text: why should I not be calling him a liar?

That's hilarious, they haven't spoken one word or even acknowledged Ability Delay's re-emergence since 2.0 hit!

You are right, if Cartel Market customisation is all 2.1 delivers, than it would be very disappointing. I like the features, I also agree that they put it on the CM, but I do not consider a CM only patch content.
B'zycon Legacy @ JAR'KAI SWORD
Turan 60 Commando; Annakami 60 Vanguard; Orotan 55 Sentinel; Taark 55 Scoundrel; Orokriste 55 Shadow
Amitha 55 Sorcerer; Fanalba17 Sniper

Nous voulons le retour de notre CM! Wir wollen unseren CM zurück! We want our CM back!

I know it's not the point of your thread, but can you tell me where you read this? I havent heard about these features yet.

And in regards to your actual post, they just said it would be the major focus of upcoming patches. Not the ONLY focus I'm sure we'll see tons of QOL features both in 2.1 and after. It makes sense that they would advertise the new systems coming before the small changes that make things easier for us.
Roswin - 50 Jedi Sentinel | Vaelin - 50 Sith Juggernaut | Kordis - 50 Sith Marauder | Vaelis - 50 Sith Assassin | Tylus - 50 Sniper

I'm not invalidating your argument — which has some merit — but I will say that QoL is a gray area and, for some people, the ability to "fix" character creation mistakes, change aspects about their character they're bored with, or impulsively try a new species all could very well fall under QoL improvements.

The bigger issue would be if those were the only improvements put forth, which I would personally not consider sufficient as blanket QoL changes. However, we have no evidence of that yet.

One of the first things devs do when releasing info about upcoming content is to hype it as much as humanly possible to keep people hooked / playing while awaiting the dangling carrot. "Hey! Grouping on planets is less annoying!" won't do that. "Hey! You can turn into a cat!" ... knowing MMO communities, that will do the trick.

Right now 2.1 is in the "hype" phase so they're going to focus on all the flashiest features to keep people's attention. I'm not saying your post is unwarranted (better to yell sooner, than too late), but I do caution that it might be a little early to jump to conclusions.

So the first update after RoTHC hasn't even come out yet and they already are guilty of not fulfilling a promise? Christ, at least let them be guilty of a crime before being their judge, jury, and executioner. We don't even know everything that is going to be in the update yet. There may be more that isn't announced yet and there may be more scheduled to debut over a couple updates.

Well the issue is they do not have enough resources to do both and cartel market is revenue generating. Honestly I am not expecting any content if it is not part of cartel market or paid expansion/add-on. Bug fixes and quality of life will either be part of expansion or need to be game breaking to be addressed.

My point with that paragraph was to point out that people want different things that they do not have yet. I do not expect everyone to agree with my desires because they are mine. Role Players have those, and they're still wanting for them.

They're not announced in any way I know of, although I think I can remember back as far as the guild leader summit where they acknowledged knowing the desire existing for them.
