Why rise of the Hutt Cartel is a failure

First of, all opinions I express here, are just that, they are my opinions.

I have played swtor since beta, and completed all content to date, including Scum and Villainy, I have 2 lvl 55, and 1 lvl 51 on its way to 55. So I have a lot of experience in this game, but for me, there is only 1 word I can use to describe this expansion, disappointing, it is disappointing on all levels and leave so much to be desired.

I remember the old days, when I used to play KOTOR, possibly the greatest RPG of it's time, truly amazing, and I look at swtor, and it makes me sad, before people get on my back let me explain why.

Firstly, the story, what happened to the bioware of old, where each planet had it's own unique and interesting story, when I genuinely felt like something was happening and I was all that stood in the way of chaos, now we get the same old cookie cutter story on each planet, by the second time of playing it through you will be hitting the space bar I promise.

Secondly, the decisions, in old bioware games the decisions you made ACTUALLY MADE A DIFFERENCE! Now, nothing changes, not even what the person you are talking to says. That hurts bioware... I mean wow... it is lazy, that is the only way I can put it.

Finally, the missions and game play, nothing new came out at all with rise of the hutt cartel, the combat feel plain and uninteresting, and at some points just too easy. I was bored out of my mind grinding through Makeb, where the mobs felt like they were just put there to waste our time and slow down the grind to 55. And the missions are ALL THE SAME, go here and click this, maybe kill X many people.

Sorry, but for me, this just isnt good enough for a bioware game, where I have grown to expect more, the whole thing felt lazy and it felt like it is there just to make another quick bit of money. Just like the cartel packs.

Thank you to all those that found the time to read the post and I hope bioware changes something. Because I love star wars, but right now I don't feel bioware or EA does.

I respectfully disagree with some of your points. But I appreciate you noting that it's just your opinion on the matter.
That's why they call it space, cause there is so much of it.

well, I hope this is not news for you but old Bioware died couple years ago. If you visit Bioware website and check Dragon Age 2 forums you can see posts similar to yours all over the place. When it comes to SWTOR, this is not a RPG game. It is not easy to make a MMO game which "decisions matter" given the production costs, especially if it will not create extra revenue.

I understand, that it is an MMO, but when every decision you make, and everything you say make no difference to what the NPC says, it just feels lazy and makes me question whether there is any point even having the decisions, because it becomes what the end of mass effect 3 was, click A, B or C

Same story? I will refrain from spoilers, but I am most certain that no other planet that we have come across in this game holds the same drama as Makeb.

Thanks for your opinion though.

The story isn't bad, but while playing through it, I just felt like I was back leveling my other toons, the story isn't half as good as what bioware was capable of, just look at KOTOR again, even their side quests felt exciting compared to most of the content in this game :/

Welcome to the difference between single-player and multi-player games. In an MMO the choices you make cannot make a lasting difference to your environment because everyone needs to make their own choices.

It is not lazy it is an inevitable result of it being an MMO.

I don't want it to change the world, I want it to change my story, I dont want the same conversation with an NPC every time we talk because no matter what I say he will say the same things, that isnt to do with being an MMO, them small things would make a huge difference in playing this game for a lot of people.

Dragon Age 2 suffered from a completely different, completely unrelated set of problems. It wasn't about BioWare not caring, it was a failed experiment. BioWare was setitng out to write a new type of story. They wanted to try a story with a more reactionary character, one where everything wasn't driven by a single person, but rather the story of a person in a difficult time reacting to something in a way that was somewhat realistic, instead of everything in the entire world be driven by a single character.

Sure, the result of that was destroyed player agency and a character with no ability to take the initiative, even if the player could deduce what was going on, but I don't criticize them for wanting to try something new.

NPCs do interact with you differently based on choices you make. I am not going to give spoilers, but for example, Darth Marr acts quite a bit differently towards my Operative as he does towards my friend's Operative.
Unsubscribed due to no new Operations.
I am happy that there will be a renewed focus on story, I love story, its why I picked this MMO. But I picked an MMO, not an episodic single player RPG that I have to pay a subscription to receive the episodes.
