Could a system like Kinect revolutionize MMOs?

Ever since the Wii came out I've wondered what a more physical interface would do for MMO's, or even just SP RPG's. What if you had to actually swing a weapon, block, parry, and thrust, and/or punch, kick, throw, and shoot rather than just pushing buttons? Add in a voice interface as well and you could have spoken conversations with NPC's and other players without an outside application. Plus voice control over your UI. I think it could be great, if done right. I think it could kill a promising gaming platform if done wrong.

This is a terrible terrible idea.

The idea of waving my arms around and shouting commands at a computer just makes my head hurt.

In short, that's a big fat no to motion camera MMO's
Providing examples of atrocious uses of a system as proof of said system's failings is about as fruitful and pertinent as my showcasing "Boat Trip" as evidence that movies suck.

That's what they said about talkies. And before that, film. And before that, photography.

Also VHS, DVDs, PC's, HDTVs, Blu-rays, Ipads, Walkmans, etc...

Bad idea, who wants to pull a hamstring playing a game, or accidently hit a family member wlking by because your trying to pommel a hard boss. I can see why it would appeal, but not for an MMO, solo games yes, multiplayer maybe, massively multiplayer no way.
Peace can be found, above all passions. Through passion, I may gain strength.
Through strength, I may gain power. Through power, I may gain victory.
But for every enemy fallen, a new foe rises.
For every chain broken, new chains bind me. Only the Force can set me free.

Did you read my post? I don't remember ever mentioning histrionic power-fitness gesticulations in front of the camera.

Read the post, didn't follow the thread, sorry, thought you were suggesting something like the starwars kinetic game, which would be bad, you link might be nice for a bit, but I wouldn't go for it myself.

Very well, not only are the games in question very low quality and a gimmick at best, but the motion sensors themselves are basic and flawed.

The programming is often full of bugs, leading to events such as a sword fight not won on skill, but by methods such as "swinging low" repeatedly until the AI looses enough health to be considered defeated.

The sensors are twitchy and often do not respond to certain movements such as moving toward or away from the camera.

Not only are they sometimes unresponsive, they are also incorrectly read movements to a degree as to suggest they are inaccurate.

The problem with these motion sensors is there is no "standardized" movement. Not everybody walks the same, jumps the same or even moves their hands in the same way. This is where the problems and faults lie with motion sensors in games.

Also, how do you propose the system caters for people with disabilities? Or speech impediments?
