Philip, can we vote for you to be a Forum Moderator. Your response was well thought out and encompassed the main fears of the community. This has been by far the best response to any issue raised by the community, the rest of the team could learn a lot from your reply.

Those still complaining are those who are incapable of reading your response, if they have then they are not smart enough to understand it, or are just trolls

FIRST OF ALL IM NOT A DUCK IF ANYTHING I LIKE THE TASTE OF CHICKEN MORE!!!
second of all the explaination of this thread i just read really doesnt make it saver, with any game account when an hacker gets into your email account kiss your details good bye!
and lastly im not an security specialist but how about just remove any email or display name confirmation and just use an second secret password?

so u would get

PASSWORD1
PASSWORD2
and (OPTIONAL) 8DIGIT SECURITY KEY NUMBERS

so unless you are at the age of 75 and or afflicted with the alsheimer diseas u should be able
to log in an 100%secure account?

am i making sense here?

People get into your your email because you gave out your password and thats the bottom line of it all
1. Baby born with artificial leg. 2. Doctor grows human hearts in cabbage patch. 3. When faucets attack. 4. Shoelace vests. 5. Homicidal anything. 6. Cats who stalk. 7. Toilet paper thief strikes roadside bathrooms. 8. Cannibal grandparents.

exactly my point! no one should be able to get into your email account unless its the fault of your own doing.
so i personally think all this displayname versus email discussion is futile, both are neiher saver or less secure!

2 passwords how ever are!..........quack quack!

Have you read ANY of what the lead security guy wrote?

Email/Displayname SHOULD NEVER be used as a means of authentication. It NEVER functioned like this. It is simply an easy to remember unique identifier.

By removing the option of using your e-mail, they effectively did 2 things:
1.) Remove risk from e-mail. How many people use the same password for both their e-mail address AND their SWTOR account?
2.) Change will allow them to implement even more security on their end.

As you said, you aren't a security specialist. Even if you were, you don't work for Bioware, so clearly you have no idea how their system is set up. Has anyone had their accounts hacked yet?

If we start seeing regular hacking of accounts, I will completely accept that they made a mistake. Otherwise, why are people still complaining about this? How does it negatively affect anyone to be more secure?

One question about the complimentary Cartel Coin for the Security key.

"How this change affect this? If I change my security key, i will lose them for one month?"

Thanks

Edit: another question.

"This one time is a bit annoying, you will provide more physical security keys? They are currently out of stock..."

How do you know what is an authorized location is and what isn't. I logged in from the same computer yesterday as today and today it still asked for the one time password. It looks like I am going to constantly have to put in this one time password every time. This is not good.

That is a major annoyance for me, as everytime I restart my PC the game and the website ask for a security question.
Please tell me, that that is not true!
Not only that but i already have had to wait an unbelievable amount of time to get the email now i fear if i get booted while on and it's happened before that i'll need to go thru it all over again bad news if in a group!

So... What's this authorized location thingie? The game seems to want me to get a new one-time only password every time I try to login. (so, it's hardly one-time only is it?) I'm generally confused.

Quack Quack, can you tell me with you have done this great security system, but you can simply change your mail in the EA website? So this OTP is totally useless. QUACK.
