The point of this thread is you're complaining about something that will not be changed specifically to please you, no matter how uncomfortable it makes you that most Star Wars fans like the retro look and it won't change for you.

Although it seems to me that all lore has its basis in the original films and the original films strove to push the imagination of its audience with futuristic technology. I would say the 1970s version of futuristic technology is outdated.
You keep equating the technology to the 1970's which whether you like it or not is the Star Wars feel. Being "retro" is completely subjective and a matter of opinion but the overwhelming response in this thread says regardless of how "modern" the look is, it simply does not matter. The reason it does not matter is that we all love the way it is and feel their is no reason to change it just to suit the times. So your argument about it being a 1970's version does not hold water as the lore stretches way longer than just the films.

Lucas was actually invoking stuff from even EARLIER than the 70s for inspriation, such as "Manhunt in Space" and the Commander Cody serial series, which is decades earlier. Take a look, unless old stuff makes your smartphone cry. You'll see Naboo-style rocketships, blasters, and even rocketpacks that would fit on a bounty-hunter's back.

He added 70s stuff out of convenience, because it was the 70s. Note that the computer displays DID update over time (Prequel computer displays versus the simple images in the original New Hope Death Star briefing), but the huge buttons and crazy consoles and well-worn, lived-in technology is deliberate.

And we love it.

This... OP you aren't really a fan are you? To me the Star Wars tech/aesthetic is a better version of steam punk.

Be that as it may the look to SW will most likely change in the upcoming movies. The 1970s look will most likely get replaced the same way the 1980s look did in Prometheus. Look at the new Tron. People are going to expect cutting edge stuff from a mainstream franchise movie being release in 2014/15.

The only people who love the old style feel are the ones who grew up with it and there is nothing wrong with that but the franchise needs to mordernize if it is going to continue imo.

Yep yep. It's timeless lore.

Besides OP.....you make it sound like there are 8 tracks, cassettes, or LPs in game (there aren't). [The CD and CD player didn't even hit the commercial market until after the first triliogy was complete and through the theaters].
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.

Bioware got me hooked with Knights of the Old Republic. The movies? I'm not blown away by them and that's because they are before my time. I liked the prequels better than the originals (well, not episode I).

IMO Knights of the Old Republic was kind of like bioware's version of Star Wars. I feel like they had more freedom with the universe. TOR seems like they had to stick to the original theatrical star wars in order to satisfy all the hard core star wars fans that would play this game just because it's star wars.

But the game is not set in 2013.

It is set 3000 years before the "1970" look of Star Wars.

The game does not need to be upgraded to look "modern" by earth standards, because it doesn't need to.
On the Internet, you can be anything you want. It is strange so many people choose to be stupid.

Long and short of it, you're shallow and are only interested in cheap visual thrills. That's common, even normal, but don't paint everyone with a broad brush here. Just about all the music I like was on the radio before I was born. And dubstep is not automatically better than classic rock just because it's chronologically newer.

Most certainly it will. But not in the way you seem to think it will. Just as the technology of the prequels upgraded the look of things compared to the original (and better) movies, the new ones will do the same. But it will not change as radically as you seem to think it must, because it doesn't have to!

It will survive just fine regardless of if it upgrades the look or not.
