At least in this MMO, you can rip out the mods and move them to a gear look that is not over the top and meets your personal tastes. Not a claim that can be made about most other MMOs.
I hate when people say "But you can just rip the mods out" that is not the point. Why should I have to pay 100's of thousands in credits to rip mods out of end game gear? The point is that you should want to wear the endgame gear.

I do not think the vast majority hate ALL over the top gear. I just think the vast majority hate over the top gear that does not fit the essence of the class. In WoW a Warrior will have massive shoulder pads, and rightfully so. The Warrior wears heavy plate armor. To me a Warrior having huge shoulder pads and a helm with big spikes fits the world and his role. Look at the Inquis moth helm and tell me how the hell that fits into any world except maybe Silent Hill or a Todd McFarlane comic.

Lets look at the gear that people seem to love...

Bounty Hunter (Not including new sets) what does most of the BH gear remind you of?

Trooper (Even the new set minus the DirecTV dish the helm has lol) what does most of the trooper gear remind you of?

Sith Warrior, what does most of those sets remind you of?

BH = Boba
Trooper = Clone Wars animated series
Warrior = Vader (Vader was over the top, therefore, not many complain about over the top Warrior gear)

If the fans of the game like the style of the OT, then give the fans the style of the OT. Bioware has said it publicly that they have heard the fans complaints about the gear, the near future sets (meaning the 2.0 sets) are already in place, but that future sets will be much different. There is no more need to defend the art designers. Bioware has already admitted they missed the mark with the Campaign and 2.0 gear.

Inq looks like a moth.

You're moving away from those looks Bioware? I don't think so...

1.2 was so much superior -_-
I never saw such ugly vests, first of all the first inq seems like an hearlquin and the second a purple pikachu, inquisitor just seems rediculous, and bounty hounter, it's like one of the gear i can craft but no one will ever buy.
The only three sets of gear that are actualy kida cool, is jedi knight, imperial agent, and trooper.
BW please stop making the inq absolutly ridiculous, tionese gear is awful, rakata headgear is horrible, my blackhole looks like a scarecrow. Please just this once do some gear cool for the assassin so i can where it with no shame.

i think the reps got lucky with the design... i mean the warrior head gear is a bucket! what the hell is that?! the inquisitor looks like a moth again and now the Bounty Hunter wich usally had pretty good looking gear looks like a mummy... i mean... enough fire the designers they´re drunk
The jedi knight gear is pretty cool as also the trooper ... the rest is pretty acceptable...
Please try to re think the way you design for the empire classes is starting to get annoying and humiliating

my first reaction seeing the new sets *** not again it just seems bw/ea arent planing on adding a single seth that would look like it belongs into star wars how many times ppl said just give us the damn black hooded chests its but no every single new gear they releasee looks worse than the last **** they did. Bioware *** is this ? are the artists who come up with these costumes so ignorant and dont see that noone likes them we want gear that says star wars no some gremlin or uber cyborg looks

By now who realy cares how end game gear look like?! you dont have to use it, so i realy see no issue.
In fact they could well just release the mods and everything would be fine all the same.
They can release everything they want as long im able to take out the mods and have the bonus set.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.

I'll take the new helmet for the bounty hunter. Gonna keep rocking my black talon armor that I've had since 1.1.

Then what's the point of even releasing the new gear? What's the point of having "artists" to sit down and, design it and get paid for something lots of players won't wear?

They should stop bothering making PvE gear or make it more appealing and stick only to the cartel market. It's just a waste of resources if they keep designing stuff so many players won't wear. And the cartel market gets better stuff anyway (looking at my Valiant armor)
