This is incorrect. I have two identical computers both running swtor. Both have the double exe however on one of the computers the 2nd exe is running extremely high as compared to the other computer. This is not a graphics situation seeing as changing the graphics settings has no effect. Nor is this a user software issue, windows version and most of the drivers are identical and all are up to date. This is a issue with old republic there is some kind of setting within old republic that is causing this. It may be Tessellation i will look into that. Until then know that old republic is not working the way it should be if the second exe. is using over 2-4 cpu in the resource monitor.

Oh man, someone with a similar problem.

I noticed this just a few moments ago. Was freaking out that maybe my Ram was dying. Basically last morning I crashed after running through Taris for ten hours, everything was getting choppy and then when I entered a phase it froze and chopped (1FPM - pretty much) before randomly closing. Well I turned off the computer by then for a couple hours while I slept only to get back on. Not even an hour in, things trivial like opening the map took a second - likewise for quest bonuses and changing levels on a map (level 1 - level 2 - etc). Finally entering a phase I went to climb a flight of stairs and it's like the game went on vacation.

So I closed the game, freaking out because I thought my ram was going, only to find that my performance was running at 6.7gigs. When I looked in processes SWTOR was still running despite me killing the process initially.

Is there a memory leak?

That can't be right. That or the game isn't allocating unused memory properly, 6.7g and when I killed it I drop back down to 1.5g ... that's a lot of memory.

having the same problem as well when logging out of the game or just quiting it takes a good 10minutes to close and uses 70%-80% of my cpu

Wow, you guys are just being silly now. This is NORMAL. It's not a bug at all. It probably has to do with multithreading (handling systems with multiple cores).

and if you actually find it ANNOYING you're either insane or you need to stop watching over your task manager like a friggin hawk.

hmm, yes I'm having performance issues as well..

My specs are:
Intel i7 - Quad Core
Geforce GT 540m w/ 1.5 GB memory
4GB DDR3 RAM
750 GB HDD

I can run Dragon Age on full, Dragon Age 2 on medium, Crysis 2 on medium, and WoW on full (ultra)..... Yet when I log in to this game, the game is barely playable fps-wise when I have all my settings on medium. High is too damn laggy.

These graphics are worse than Dragon Age, Crysis, and even Rift.... but I can run high on all of the games.... yet I can barely run this game on medium... Weird.

Also, I'd like to point out that I'm on a laptop. (as you can tell with the "540m" graphics card). I've been feeling the heat coming off my graphics card and processor when playing this game. Every other game makes the underside warm. This game last night made it hot enough to make the table surface considerably hot. That's not normal, and no it's not issues on my end. Again, this is proof that the game client is eating away resources and apparently the code has made this game very bulky and resource-consuming. But of course, I don't know anything, I mean its not like I'm a programmer or anything. /sarcasm

Also, I've been looking at the client's processes in my Task Manager.. Here's what I see:

swtor.exe *32 | CPU: 11 | Memory: 1,001,968 K
swtor.exe *32 | CPU: 02 | Memory: 485,176 K

Hmm, first off the memory usage is off the freakin charts. Secondly, where are there TWO processes? My CPU Usage is spiking tremendously and my Memory usage is up to 3.02 GB out of 4.00 GB....

Do NOT sit here and tell me I'm ignorant and stupid enough to not know what I'm doing. It's on the client's side, not... the... USER.

TL;DR I'm reporting the same problem and I DO NOT agree with OP. Two processes are high inefficient.

For the last freaking time it's not the fact that it's two processes that is messing with your resources. If you took all the code and smashed it together to run in one it would still cause the same problems for the same people.

Just because that's the most obvious difference between this game and others doesn't mean it's the actual root of the problem. Just because something coincides with a specific event doesn't mean there's a cause-effect relationship between them

Yes the game engine needs a little work and has proven problematic for certain configurations. There have been all manner of solutions people have found for themselves in different graphics driver configurations and in-game settings. The problem is that there is no single thread connecting all the problems people report so it's not something obvious they can just go and change.

As a final note, I can run Crysis 2 on super-ultra-preium or whatever they call it, and it plays flawlessly without heating up my system. Not even WoW can give me 60fps all the time. Just because some games run better doesn't mean that all games can or will, even with the complexity of the graphics being much higher. Crysis 2 has some of the most stable and streamlined code I've ever seen in a game.

They can fix that issues with a simple flag in the exe, it will allow more then 2 gigs by a single exe, they have some other reason for this.

Not necessary to run 2 processes for multithreading.

Agree, I don't find it annoying personally, I'm just curious why they do it like this.

My system is not the greatest of pc's but it meets minimum requirements it shouldn't be using that much Single digit frame rates are killing game play.
Um what does it matter if it 1 or 2 processes, the game will still have to do the same task thus nothing would really change.

Are your GFX setting all set to low?

So why is 1 of my swtor.exe using 41% or my cpu and the second swtor.exe using 31%??

Someone has to have a reason why some of us are experiencing massive usage of not just cpu but ram as well for both process of swtor.exe

we need an answer or fix please
